Because of the lack of new stuff I'm currently re-hearing some of the old episodes.
Yesterday I started with Ep44 GNO2. And I have to admit in retrospect you can tell Elio had already read ADWD and tries to avoid every bit of spoilers - but somtimes it is hard to believe nobody asked him why he knows that...

It starts after ~40 min to be great:
- Topic: Baby Aegon - Elio: "I think he has to be about 17 if he lives - but keep reading."
- Topic: Mance Raider and kingsblood: "That surely can become a topic."
- Topic: Badasses / Jon Connington (who was never a topic before that situation) - Question someone: "Where is he, I think he's exiled!" - Elio: "Keep reading!" (Although JonCon was supposed to be dead).

Still 1,5 hours to go, I'll keep you updated.

Haha I've been doing this too and I noticed the same thing. So much restraint! I would have blurted out everything in excitement probably (and then feel awful about it for years)

I'm a relative newbie to the podcast (started listening after reading ADWD), I must have re listened to Guys Night Out 3 4 times before I started listening to the pre-ADWD stuff... I noticed the same things you all mentioned about Elio's inside information in Guys Night Out 2...which got me thinking about of the theories Elio pushed in Guy Night Out 3

He really pushed the Brandon + Ashara = Jon theory...I don't want to go into detail why I disagree with him since that belongs in the B+A=J thread which I can't find (once again I'm a newbie)... I don't see how a regular reader of the ASOIAF would logically argue that Ned Stark would to try cover up the alleged international controversy of B+A=J by claiming Jon Snow is his bastard child (which is a still international controversy)

I think Elio might be working off some inside information to be favouring that Jon Snow equation

Anyone else thinks that?

First: Hi browndragen, welcome to the board! Nobody will blame you because you're new. I saw that especially in the ASoIaF-fan-communitiy where (hardly) nobody gets spoiled if he/she does not want to (except for MImi who told several times in the podcast that she spoiled some people totally) and new "I'mReadingASoIaFForTheFirstTimeAndMyBrotherToldMeToBlogAboutIt"-websites are always highly welcome.

Second: Good point about Elio in guys night out 3. He really pushed the Ashara/Brandon thing. The question is why he should have information about that? Is there some new Dunk&Egg story in the pipeline he could have read? Or will the "World of Ice and Fire" cover the year of the false spring?

Third: Still not finished with GNO2 - but listening closer to Elios comments: He clearly says he thinks the "Jaime sees Fake-Jeine"-theory is totally bullshit.

Maybe we should introduce a "So spake Elio!" section to this page, similar to the So spake Martin section of westeros.org

- At about 1:46:00 Elio says: "Varys is playing the long con." Does anybody else see the reference to Connington!?
- He also points out that Ashara could be Quaithe!

No idea if your serious or not. . .

Elio has a lot of knowledge, but he isn't a god. Just because he doesn't believe something is true doesn't mean that it's not.

Like George RR Martin, I don't think Elio is above trolling the fanbase a tiny bit on the topic of secret parentage.

First and forever: I never meant anything in this topic serious in a way that should harm anybody. I just wanted to clarify that. When I started it there was another one titled "GRRM you sneaky man" and because I liked the title I reused it.

I'm well aware that Elio is one of GRRMs few secretkeepers (besides Paris, Ty, Benioff and Weiss and some others) and therefore has a special role in the whole fandom. I appreciate it that he is still reachable for normal fans and seems to be a very nice guy. I also now that he on one hand is not allowed to show his knowledge n the other hand does not tr to spoil anybody. And in addition to that is still a normal fan that wants to spread his theories.

In that regard I found it amusing that he is as good in hiding little hints as GRRM is. I relistened to the podcast and thought: "Hey, he did it again". In the same way we all permanently reread the ASOAIF books - to find well hidden hints to things we already know (Patchface prophecing the RW for example).

I now Elio doesn't do it for purpose and I could NEVER endure what he is sometimes enduring (knowing a whole book and talking with people who are still clueless). He has my greatest respect and I did not want to offed anybody.

Yeah, its funny listening back and hearing a prediction come true or a theory play out. Someone on an earlier episode last year said Gwendolyn Christie would make a good Brienne.

Yeah, Elio (and Linda) do a great job in the position they are in. For this episode, Elio left a lot of easter eggs that we can fully appreciate now that Dance with Dragons is out. One of the reasons why GNO2 is one of my favourite episodes.

I re-listened to the episode and found some other funny moments regarding ADWD (I already included them to the BestOfFile):

02:36:00 - Quaithe = Ashara -> If Elio thinks that, it has to be true!! Although I have to disbelieve - I rather think Ashara is Griff's septa.

Griff's Septa.....is Roz! GRRM likes her so much on the show he's going to make her a part of canon.

How could I forget

I was listening to this episode while on the flight today - definitely one of our best. Endshow/aftershow is still the best of the last 3 GNOs. Elio kicked ass in this episode, in particular, to let things loose and embrace the House Manwoody lifestyle

Both topics started from me, I speculated whether Mance might be burned and also wondered where\what happened to Jon

At one point Elio almost gave up details on Theon's dismal state, but I think that was from a spoiler chapter because Fabio or someone else also seemed to have read it. At another point, I think (Elio?) tries to segway the topic of masterminds from the topic of whores, or vice versa, which is funny because Elio tried to shoot down the "Masterminds prefer Whores" theory in GNO4
