those of you who've been following us on facebook and twitter might have noticed me kicking around the idea of an APOIAF meetup in dallas/ft worth. turns out, most of the responsive texas listeners are located in houston. so i'm coming to houston. i'm going to louis c.k.'s show at jesse jones hall on october 19th, and plan to spend the weekend down there. which would make the best night for a meetup saturday, october 20th. i can probably figure out a place to stay or else grab a hotel room, so no worries if y'all can't host me. let's start figuring out the headcount, and make plans for what we'll do. i'm so excited to hang out with fellow manwoodies- hope i get to see as many of y'all as possible! |

I'm so excited!! Not only a APOIAF meetup, but I need to get tickets to Louis CK! I didn't even know he was coming here. There are a bunch of good places for a meetup around town. Off the top of my head, the Den, UH's bar isn't too noisy (and I'm on first name basis with all the bartenders). You can actually talk in there. Many of the downtown hotels have pretty nice bars also. But as a Houston resident, I volunteer for any location scouting or other planning down here. I can't wait to meet apoiaf fans who don't stare at me when I joke about cat-rimming. |

I might be down for that. My buddy just moved to Houston, and I like Louis C.K. My finance, him and I are all big fans of ASOIAF. |

I love how many ASOIAF fans are Louis CK fans. Makes sense. We'll have to take a poll at the meet up to see how many people also went to Louis CK. |

I was a undergrad there in the Economics dept. until this past May when I graduated. I plan to return for my Masters in the Fall, and spend more time at the Den pretending to do homework! |

I'm planning on moving to Houston in the early fall so I'll be there and would love to meet up with everyone else who can make it. I live in New Orleans right now. |

I'm jealous. I saw him at the Beacon Theater in New York last year, he's pretty hilarious. Be sure to take pictures at the event so the scattered manwoodies can live vicariously. |

This isn't until October? I'm officially saving for plane tickets. Now I just need a job, so that I'll have money to start saving. |

Ok, so I am totally willing to start working on local arrangements for this. For anyone interested in coming to town, both Hobby (HOU) and Bush (IAH) are Houston airports. Hobby is smaller and much more pleasant to deal with, but not as many places will fly into Hobby. |

Huh, I live in Houston. And fairly near Hobby. I guess I can offer to be a ride bitch to people flying in unless something comes up that weekend? |

Hey, let's start planning this! And maybe it can double as a book release celebration! I'm happy to take the lead on local arrangement-type stuff. I had a couple of thoughts vis-a-vis venue: first of all, so long as the head count is less than 10 or 12, I'm happy to host at my apartment. Mimi and I talked about it a bit, and this seems like probably the most cost-effective way to do things. I could just buy a few cases of wine/beer and make some thematic snacks, and we don't have to worry about renting/reserving anywhere and maybe paying a fee. However, if there are too many people or y'all would rather just go out somewhere, I was going to suggest Rudyard's (http://www.rudyardspub.com/) in Montrose. It's a pretty standard bar/pub with good food and plenty of parking, not too expensive. They have a couple of different rooms/areas that they can block off for different sized groups, and people could either just order their own food/drinks or we could all chip in and get some trays of stuff. Thoughts? If we're going to reserve somewhere, we probably need to do it sooner than later. Maybe someone can make a poll? Also, I can host 1 person or a couple on our sleeper sofa if anyone is coming in from out of town, although I'll give priority to Ashley if she actually journeys down from Canada! |
