 Hi everybody, the idea of opening a special aPoIaF-chatroom came up on the boards. I found a freehoster of chatrooms and registered a chatroom (channel) there, then I talked with Amin and he approved the idea. So I can proudly present the aPoIaF-chatroom (aka "Kingsgrave Castle"). Before linking and giving the details, some important things first: - The podcast crew (and I) will not moderate the channel - we hope that everybody knows how to behave. - The podcast's rule of not directly exchanging links to copyrighted material has to be followed there also. - I (as the "owner") must insist that everybody that talks there follows the rules of our hoster as are: Quote: - The promotion of illegal activities is prohibited.
- The use of malicious bots or scripts, including flood bots, clone scripts, spambots or 'takeover' scripts is not permitted.
- Host your botnet elsewhere. Channels found to be used for hosting botnets will be banned.
- Chat rooms which are explicitly 18+ in nature should have "18+" within the channel topic.
- Advertising or promoting any other IRC server is not permitted.
- Warez is not permitted. Filesharing bots are permitted so long as the shared material is legal in the USA.
- No harassment, impersonation, slander or libel.
(I just copied them - so we can not discuss these terms, follow them or do not chat)
Technical Details It is a IRC-based chat (so everything that works in IRC should work there). For everybody who does not know what that is - do not worry, it is easy and there is tons of information out there ( http://centralchat.net/help/faq or google "IRC"). But if you do not want to do fancy stuff you do not need to worry and just chat. You can either join the channel via: Your favorite IRC-client: Server: centralchat.net / Channel: #apoiafThe browser-based connection (needs JavaScript enabled): http://centralchat.net/chat/apoiafHappy chatting - I will mainly be present during the day on weekdays (Europe)!

So happy chatting also without me. Who is Podrick?'Podrick' is a little program hosted on brynden's computer that is able to fulfill different tasks in the channel. He will keep track on who joins and leaves the channel, only to get an idea if it is used at all. What are the commands Podrick understands?Podrick learned quite a bit during these days - here is a list of all the commands he understands. Be sure to always write a them alone in a new line - otherwise he does not understand or get them. So an "embedded" command does not work. Most commands should work either capitalized or not and with blanks between them or not - if you stumble upon some strange behaviour - feel free to copy and paste the conversation you had with Pod and PM it to me. Code: Podrick! ... He responds if you call him.
Help! ... He will give information about all functionalities that are activated.
Drinks! ... He will show a list of all drinks he has in store. To order a drink follow these samples (works with all available drinks in the same way):
Tea! ... He will bring Tea to the one who orders it
Tea! all ... He will bring Tea for all
Tea! brynden He will bring Tea to the specified nickname
Items! ... He will show a list of all items he has in store. To order one follow these samples (works with all available things in the same way):
hat! ... He will give a special hat to the one who orders it
hat! all ... He will give a special hat to all
hat! brynden He will give a special hat to the specified nickname
FlipTable! ... He will (maybe) flip a table (random answers).
Time! ... He will tell you what the time is in different places of the world.
Episode! ... He will give you an information on how to retrieve information about a specific podcast-episode
Episode! 1 ... He will output information about this episode.
Game! ... He will give you an information on how to play a game of "Hangman", or how the Payne-family calls it "Headsman"
g!start ... starts a game
g!stop ... end a game
g!status ... returns the actual status
g!a ... You ask Pod if 'a' is a letter of the word.
g!jon_snow ... You ask Pod if the searched word is "Jon Snow" - that should in fact also work with "g!jonsnow" or "g!jon snow"
Comment: The used names come from here: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/List_of_Characters#A and the file contains at the moment over 1800 names. If you find some that are spelled wrong, please send me a PM. If somebody has a nickname, the name normally is formatted like lyonel_“the_laughing_storm”_baratheon - for writing the solution you do not need to enter the "s in such a case, in fact it would be ok if you write g!lyonelthelaughingstormbaratheon. I removed the numbers from all Targaryen kings. It is a game of hangman - like this here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangman_%28game%29 . The words are all names from asoiaf taken from here: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Li ... aracters#APod will write a string like this one: Code: GAME STATUS: ********_"********"_********* ERRORS: 0 GUESSES: [] *** is for letters _ is for a blank "" would be for a nickname ERRORS shows how many erros you made (maximum at the moment is 6) GUESSES shows which letters you (or somebody else) already guessed. You start a game with g!startYou end a game with g!stop or g!endYou will only get the solution if you lose or win - not when you give up. I can announce that I'm currently working on a little Helper-Bot for the channel. Nothing very sophisticated, at the moment I call him "Podrick" - so if you ever stumble into the channel and only "Podrick" is attending - he is just a robot, but he will answer if you call him "Podrick!".
I have a test version that is able to fulfill some tasks, it will be attending the channel when I am also there. The ultimate plan that I have is that our Podrick can do the following things:
- Stay on the channel without brynden
- Tell you what he is able to do [partly done - try "Help!"]
- Tell you the time in different time zones [done - try "Time!"]
- Serve some drinks [done - try "Drinks!"]
- Fetch information about the podcast episodes from my Stats-File (Length, Hosts, Title) [done]
- Provide some hangman-type game with characters of aSoIaF
edit (I'll use this post to gather ideas)
- include some Feathered Hat [done] and Manwoody reference [done]
- include Dolorous Edds best lines
- include Nipplepiercings [done], shadow condoms [done], the iron price, flipping tables, call the banners, RACY
Does anybody have some other ideas?

I might add an option that he can dropp Dolorous Edd's best lines.
And there will be surely some place for Manwoodys and Feathered Hats, I'll think about that.

lets not forget flip a table when necessary. he should be able to write the word "RACY" when needed. he should be able to pay the iron price, which boots someone off when requested....... he should be able to "call the banners" which makes him send an email to the members. or to your "friends or foes".

Hello everybody. I just wanted to say that Podrick will be alone for the first time for a whole weekend (I will start him in a few minutes), so I might not be there when he is. Be aware that he keeps track on who joins the channel and who leaves it - but only that. He will not log any of your conversation (if somebody has doubts I can PM him/her the source-code). He has learned quite a few commands - I have summarized them all in the FAQ section of this topic ( viewtopic.php?p=36102#p36102). If anybody thinks that Pod acts strange - please feel free to PM me your conversation with him, I will look what I can do. Have fun. edit: more information about the game in the FAQs.

Have just had stimulating conversation with Podrick (read: not really but very entertaining) - works a treat, now only need a few live bodies to interact with to make it a proper party :)
Any thoughts on making a scheduled chat for the forseable future (I mean between gaming, writing, litening to podcasts and occassionally visiting family to remind them I'm not dead I need t plan these things out!)

Hi guys I just wanted to push the project again. Over the weekend Pod was alone and I found out that quite a number came in only to leave a few minutes after. That is sad, but given the small number of people totally understandable.
I would propose one fix chat-window between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC in which I try to be attendant as often as possible. I understand that that is not too convenient for most of you living in the US/Canada/Southamerica - but maybe someone else could propose a second window that is more convenient for you.
BTW: Podrick is still there and awaits you. For everybody who curses because of the game's difficulty. I found out that those are the most prominent letters in the 1890 names that form the pool:

That is quite interesting, because the most prominent letters in the English language (according to Wikipedia) are:
e t a o i n s h r d l u
Nevertheless - I hope to chat with some of you soon - be sure to not "flood" the server as Bina has managed to do a few minutes ago. She was kicked (not by me or Pod, but the system), because of: "Flooding" (Flooding (Limit is 5 lines per 5 seconds)). Normally that should be no problem, but ok.
