Im so excited and nervous to sing my duet with lord prism but it looks like it's happening! Anybody have any advice on how best to do it. The obvious thing seemed like a Skype call with the music playing on my end and I record the call with both of us singing along but I know like zippity zap about this stuff. Anyone have any tips? |

Ooh I'm so excited you guys are doing a duet My advice is to record separately while each listening to the same backing track (to make it easier to synch up, make a clapping sound when the music starts or at an agreed-upon beat). You can use Audacity or GarageBand both to record and edit. Trying to record while using Skype sounds like a terrible idea. You might get very lucky and turn out perfectly synchronized, but more likely there will be a few milliseconds' delay which isn't noticeable when having a conversation but will drive you nuts while trying to sing together. But that's just my 2 cents |

Yeah, recording separately and editing it together seems like the best route. Having a metronome and a spoken countdown to align the tracks would help. I used to use a file that had visual countdown cues with a metronome for audio syncing purposes, but I don't have access to a PC that has it at the moment. |

thanks guys! I didn't think of the lag time in skype at all. We are doing baby its cold outside and the vocals have to overlap at the right places for sure. I think maybe I'll record the lady parts first and see if I can get lordprism to record his part while listening to my prerecorded track in a headset or something. That way he could make sure he is timed with me and the music and then I'll ovelrap them. Boom |

Please get your audio files in by Dec 21st. If you get them in by Dec 17 it is even better. |

@Amber I have the piano track for This Land is My Land ready, I'm just going to add backing vocals and a kazoo solo or something later tonight or tomorrow so that you can sing the verses |

Oh shit, alright So how does one record a file that can be shared? Do a call with someone who has a Skype recorder? I have a recorder on my phone We have a mic and a thing to plug it into that plugs into the computer, but we don't really know how it works per se... Why do we have all this equipment we don't know how to use?! |

I tried to upload my file here but apparently .mp3s are not allowed, so Amber I'll just PM you the link. For recording songs I strongly recommend Garageband, because it's free, easy to use, works with your built in mic and has a bunch of automatic settings that sound really nice You could also use Audacity which does pretty much the same things you just have to come up with the settings yourself. In either program just drag & drop my mp3 file, create a second track, hit record and you're good to go use whatever setup you have when podcasting and you'll be fine |

Or you could use your mic! All that matters is that you are wearing headphones |

Use sound cloud or mega or whatever to put a link here, don't upload direct to the forum |

Really really phenomenal work by everybody! All of you talented musical ladies have my respect and admiration. A hearty round of applause is well earned. Throw in some comedy stylings by our podcast bard Jed, and this is shaping up to be a marvelous musical episode. |

So I still have my badly recorded aca pella version of All I Want From You Qarth, so I uploaded that. Lyrics: Spoiler: show Written two years ago and sung in January 2014 - it's come a long way to see the light of day. Excuse the sound of my dogs scratching on the back door. I don't have the privacy to rerecord for quality hehe. Then, I also recorded a newy - no lyrics required. To the tune of Carol of the Bells. Excuse the crapness once again, I just like to participate (story of my life). Both are in a playlist here: https://soundcloud.com/jesicka309/sets/apoiaf-filks-2014 Amin, do you need me to email, or is this link enough? |
