Post subject:  The Red Bedding: Reviewing APOIAF from the Beginning

I started listening to APOIAF from the first episode a little before linecom1 started his cool review. He apparently isn´t doing it anymore, so I decided to take up the fallen banner. As a completionist, I will start with episode one. At the current moment, I am at episode 20-ish, but what the hell, I can go back to the Ghost Cow, episode one.

That said, I mean to be as kind as possible in my reviews, as I realise the beginning is a very delicate time. Delicate, sensitive, tender - vulnerable to titty twisters. So I won´t twist to many titties. I also realize I have zero prestige and zero standing in anything, being just a disembodied voice from the internet. That´s ok.

In line with linecom1, I´ll choose some awesome moments and some lame ones, and spit them out for the consideration of the masses. I will also be identifying Memes to the greatest extent possible, as APOIAF has accumulated an incredible amount of them over time.

I´ll probably listen to the ghost cow as I work today, and write up a mini review tonight.

Awesome: (1) I was surprised that the music has been here since the beginning. It's cool.
(2) Much like the Song of Fire and Ice series itself, the APOIAF podcast is full of personalities major and minor who die early. It is interesting to hear so many different voices all at once - none of whom I really knew of before.
(3) Ashley says that Kevan Lannister would be a strong player in the game. She's apparently right according to Varys. Nice call.
(4) THE SCREAMING OF A RUSTED IRON HINGE - The Creaking door meme is invented. Aeron Damphair was apparently raped (?) or somethinged by his brother Euron. He mostly thinks about squeaky doors though and never refers to the event itself in the text.

Funny: (1) Chris decides that both the north and the iron islands are vikings., but he wants to be a maester. Mimi gets real pissed when he mispronounces hit "Meister" and is like MAESTER MAESTER! twice very quickly. I laughed out loud.
(2) Mimi has a very, very high voice in this episode. Nuff said.
(3) As linecom1 stated, Mimi also does sort of an announcer voice. It's odd.

Lame: Sometimes hard to hear people as they talk over each other. This is the first episode, so it's pretty rough. Some quality discussion occurs however.

Review: Dear lord this is from 2008! It's interesting to hear some guesses about what will go on in ADWD. A lot of stuff is uneven. It's a first EP, but there are funny parts and doors start creaking on people very early in APOIAF. The tone is set.

I admire the dedication of you folks that start off these major review projects, be it the podcast or book chapters. Good luck in your endeavor. I'll keep checking in.

I listened back to all the podcast episodes after ADWD was already out and boy was that a weird experience. All the random (and sometimes surprisingly accurate) speculation was very amusing indeed.
