Anyone want to do an Edinburgh meetup evening of Sunday July 29?

Anyone want to do a meetup in London area on the weekend of Aug 4-5?

Just testing the waters here with no guarantees as I am not traveling alone and do have some other commitments. Would be fun to do a meetup though.

We could do sth in London on Aug 5th.
I'm already hosting sth on the 4th.

I'm moving over pretty soon for a job in the Czech Republic! And based on my European knowledge, once you're in Europe you're basically in walking distance of any of the countries, though I might have to take a swim to get to that island of yours ;)

Omg that’s so cool! Will you be based in Prague? One of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

I'll be a little south of Prague, by the Austrian border, but I'll definitely be go up there on weekends and stuff.

Do we have any suggestions for specific locations? I am staying in downtown London.

Lunch or dinner? Dinner may be better if it is a longer event.

We did a meet up when Valkyrist came to town that was sunday lunchtime at a pub next to Blackfriars - ability to book a large table was key.

I know you are crazy busy Bina, but as the only resident in the city - I would feel far more comfortable taking suggestions from you than trip advisor.

I'm open for the 5th, but because of the time of year I need to lock in a sitter for Rhaegar so if this date is a go I'm in.

Available for dinner on the 5th. Can pretty much confirm for that if that works for people.

What was that pub Bina?

Any other particular recommendations everyone?

great, it's in my calendar = )

the pub is the founder's arms http://www.foundersarms.co.uk/

particular recommendations depends a lot on what kind of things you like to do? there's a million interesting things in London. when valkyrist was here we did one of the jack the ripper tours which was really, really interesting. I'd also highly recommend the sky garden. https://skygarden.london/ it's free, but you have to book in advance (about 3ish weeks, I think. books out quickly)

That's where I met up with Noah too! I most likely won't be in Paris early August so I won't make the trip to London from southern France, but I'll keep the date in mind if my plans change.

Anyone a guaranteed attend? I want to purchase a squash racquet online that needs uk address to ship to, if someone can receive and bring to the meetup for me

Post subject:  Re: Amin's UK trip

I'll definitely be there but I'll be out and about a lot that day and can't really carry it around with me all day = /

Author:  Amin [ Wed Jul 18, 2018 11:43 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Amin's UK trip

No worries I should be able to buy the racquets myself earlier.

My gf and I will be there by 6:30pm, I'll have no net access unless there is wifi there. Not sure how big of a table to get, are we looking at maybe 4 or 5 podcast listeners?

We are staying those last couple of days at a hotel right beside the London Eye. I am still open to suggestions for a good dinner place nearer to that location than this pub, if people are open to it. I expect that we will be tired at the end of our trip so something closer than the pub may be ideal.

Post subject:  Re: Amin's UK trip

it's pretty close to the london eye and it's a nice walk along the river as well. our local tolkien society branch sometimes meets at the silver cross, which is a little bit closer, and that's a nice enough venue, but I haven't had food there I think. I don't think I have any better and/or closer suggestions.

probably not convenient for our meetup, but the two of you should check out the southbank centre food market at some point during the weekend. very close to you and lots of great options, and I also sometimes get gifts for people back home from there

Post subject:  Re: Amin's UK trip

heyyy so I very very very very likely won't be able to come along. sorry! I've been really sick for a month now and haven't been getting anywhere with doctors here, so I'm flying home this weekend to stay with my parents for a while, probably until I have a diagnosis / treatment. so yeah. I don't know what the next few months will be like. if anything changes I'll let you know, but I'm pretty sure I won't be here for the meetup. sorry. it would have been lovely to meet you, and I hope you and your girlfriend have an amazing time here!

No problem take it easy and hopefully you will figure out what it back home and recover quickly. Best not to attend group event when sick.

I saw ftward's doppelganger yesterday in Edinburgh while on a tour. The doppelganger's wife was South Korean.

Who’s confirmed for today ? Tina and myself will be there , do we need to book a table ?

Author:  Amin [ Sun Aug 05, 2018 2:30 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Amin's UK trip

Can you book a table for six under your name Jed for 645 pm.

That is my estimate based on me and my gf, you two and two more roughly. If more confirm here, then bigger table and let us know here.
