I will be in Vancouver for a week in early August. Kyle and I are thinking about meeting then. Wondering who else is in Vancouver and could potentially make it out to lunch, dinner, or summer night market event?

Whoa, TWO podcast hosts in one city at the same time?

Is there no other Vancouver, Lower mainland or even Seattle listeners out here?

I'd be more comfortable if more people were going because I'm really shy (and not much of a drinker)......

There's a chance I might be out of town... but if not, I'd probably be down for something. Especially if it involves food and beer!

I missed my chance to meet Kyle in Seattle, and it's not every day you get a second chance at such a thing. :D

Easily solved. Start drinking, and watch the shyness evaporate! ;)

You're in good company then. I'm not much of a drinker either.

Only 2 so far, I am sure we've got some more out there.

Sushi/Korean BBQ combo joint place sound good? I would have said Shabusen but the best one closed a while ago and that leaves only the less impressive Granville one. Got some other suggestions?

If it is lunch, Stephos (Greek food) is always good.

That Shabusen was my favourite restaurant! Stepho's works too; I'm partial to Greek food, being Greek. :)

I think I am mixing up locations by the way, it was the one near Granville and Broadway that closed right, leaving only the downtown one?

I heard there is a restaurant at that old Granville/Broadway spot using the same equipment and having a similar deal, maybe a bit more pricey. Haven't tried it yet, have you heard anything on that?

Btw you know the old asian guy that managed the closed down Shabusen? He thought I was a player because I kept taking my dates to that place  He's working at the downtown one now, at least when I went last summer. Said the landlord wanted to raise the rent and they couldn't afford to pay it

Yeah, the Granville & 14th location closed, the downtown one is still there. I preferred the one that's gone now; haven't tried the new restaurant that took over.

And Amin, you ARE a player, obviously. 8-)

Being east-coast and down, I will not be able to attend. BUT. Someone please capture on film the first human-to-human meeting of two hosts of APOIAF, okay?

Thanks.

PS: Preferably with Amin and Kyle running toward each other in slow-motion.

Lol, I wish. I have the unfortunate asian gene where I turn red after a drink or half.

Hahaha. I can take dirty jokes but just can't make my own. No witty rebuttals from me. >_>

If I had a decent camera, I would but I don't (it's old). Pictures might just have to suffice. But an apoiaf meet-up on camera would be good material for the youtube page!

Vancouver Meet-Up was AWESOME! Anyone who wasn't there, YOU MISSED OUT! :P

Kyle and Amin were even cooler in person, and Vietrose was super nice. We had all-you-can-eat sushi and Korean BBQ, walked around the city, taught Kyle all about such historical Canadian figures as Gassy Jack, and experienced a frighteningly realistic re-enactment of the War of 1812.

Good times!

I concur with Lex, The meet-up was AWESOME! Hehe.
Amin and Kyle were as cool as cucumbers. Lex is so knowledgeable about Vancouver, lol! #Idontcompare
It was so easy being friends with everyone. Everybody was so tall! I've never felt so short (5'2"). LOL
The boys were true gentlemen (thank-you for bbq'ing the meat because like Ashley I do not trust my meat cooking skills).
Haha And I got to go to a comic book store with Kyle! :o

We got Canadian accents, eh Kyle?
(LOL the lone American, we managed not to hurt his American pride during the War of 1812)

Events/highlights from the meetup:

Meeting Kyle at the Bus depot and then immediately rushing him to the skytrain before my transit ticket expired
Walking around downtown before lunch, going to the centre where the anime convention is going to be held and then
being escorted out of the building by security.
Hanging outside the restuarant and meeting Lex and Rosie for the first time
Ordering a *lot* of food and managing to eat it all. Lex and Amin battle and defeat the excessively large Temaki cones. Rosie doing her part and Kyle focussing on eating meat due to his lack of sushi appreciation.
Kyle burning his first batch of Korean bbq meat, then doing an excellent job cooking the later orders. Kyle scarfing down both excessively charred meat and properly cooked meat.
Talking about Ice and Fire, including metaphors and allusions, while enjoying an excellent lunch.
Chatting about the upcoming (still not edited) epsiode 86 and other stuff you would love to hear.

After lunch:
Introducing Kyle to Japadogs
The War of 1812 experience ("if you see your cousin on the battlefied, aim straight for your cousin's heart, because the last thing you would hit is what you are aiming for")
Walking around the downtown seawall and pointing out stuff, including the pile of powdered bananas
Kyle learns about safe injection sites
Our group gets asked for change many times by homeless people (something about us suggested that we had money?)
Kyle helps out one of them, with American change
Walking through Gastown and checking out stores and places.
Gassy Jack
Checking out Chinatown including the gardens there
Going to T&T, the asian superstore I will take Mimi to if she ever visits Canada
Introducing Kyle to asian foodstuffs, including coconut flavoured bread which he bought to snack on for the rest of the trip
Kyle shocked and interested by the local LGBT magazine cover
Taking the skytrain back to waterfront and the seabus over to the north shore to check out Lonsdale Quay market

HA, not being much of a drinker is probably a good choice when meeting people you are internet-fangirl-tastic about.

Although shockingly Mimi was willing to meet me a second time, so what do I know?

Qarth did not become the greatest city that ever was or will be by letting Dothraki savages through its gates! We gotta respect his integrity. For the greater good.

Glad it went well, guys! Next thing you know, we'll all be crammed into a convention center chewing on horse meat and snatching gulps of Arbor Gold from each other's flagons!
