i found you all by seaching game of thrones podcast on itunes, first tried listening to the 'beyond the wall' podcast adn was thoroughly disappointed. i then tried yours, my first episode was the cripples, bastards, and broken things got episode review with just mimi and kyle. and of course mimi had me at manwoody, or was it 'dicks' or 'creampie' or 'fuck them', you get my point.....

haha, that's a terrible first episode to start with! i think that ended up being one of the many phone conversations that kyle and i had, published into an episode because recording was cancelled that week. good thing i cut out all of kyle's deep, dark secrets.

I listen at work almost exclusively.

I've never really been into podcasts but I was pointed to one Ice and Fire podcast by a thread on Westeros a few years back whose name I don't even really remember now. Anyway, they only had a few episodes before dropping off the face of the internet, and after a while I stopped checking Westeros regularly. With the TV show looming, I decided to try and look up the old podcast about a year ago and see if they had anything new. I didn't find it but the friend who got me started on GRRM pointed me to APOIAF. One listen, and I was hooked.

Hi APOIAF

Thanks for the great podcast! I just bought the DVDs for the 1st season and have been listening to you guys to avoid having to read the books....

Well not really.

I just started reading around Thanksgiving so shamefully had none of the waiting around for FFC or DWD and was able to read the five books back to back twice. I found the podcast when looking around for ways to get more info about all of the crazy questions and theories running around in my head after reading through twice.

You guys have done an amazing job with this podcast. You sound great and provide the right balance of ridiculous banter and semi-factual analysis of the books and theories around them. I originally was going to skip the tv episode podcasts but have listened to a few of them as well and the reactions to the casting alone have been worth the listen.

It has been a really fun listen. I haven't tried that many podcasts but you guys definitely get it right. Thought I'd check out the forum since you refer to it in the shows a good bit and thought I'd say hi so as to not look like a troll if I do decide to make a comment on something.

thanks
Seth

Hey Guys,

I came across the podcast last year after the series finished on tv. I had been following Larry at Otaku Assemble on Youtube and was waiting on his reaction to episode 9 which was greater than I had ever imagined. I think he had mentioned somewhere on youtube channel or on the facebook page he was going to be a guest on your show. I tuned in and loved it. You guys made me laugh and your theories were just as wild as mine at times. I got into the books a couple of weeks before the series started on tv so had to rush through GOT before it came on tv and I was hooked from then on. I am now obsessed and mention it to everyone I meet.

Thanks for taking the time to put podcast together :)

Was searching for something to listen to while working at my desk at home just before Dance came out.

Found this talk about dicks, manwoodys and inexplicable lack of knowledge and just KNEW I would fit in.

I found the podcast through Larry's reviews after he was on the podcast the first time and then went back and listened to all the episodes.

Random question, how do you go about guest hosting?

As I understood it: write them a mail and wait - if you are on / have time and live in the right time-zone you have big chances to guest host. Don't call them, they call you ;)

Well said. Sending an audio clip/audition really helps as is described in the linked guest host guide. Note that we might play it at the end of an episode.

Since there are only a few TV episode recap episodes, getting on a guest host for that may be difficult for the next few weeks. But once we get back to our chapter re-read after season 2 is over, we will ideally have a guest host every episode for a while and get through a lot of the guest requests.

I started just because I was having some ASOIAF withdrawals well before the show and ADWD were coming out. So I started surfing the internet... found this set of episodes that caused multiple ear orgasms and I was hooked. I forget what episode they were on at the time, but I went all the way back and started listening from episode one.

Edit: I just realized i was talking about having multiple ear orgasms and the selections I made for the poll were "at home" and "in bed".... (facepalm)

I started listening sometime between episode 30-40 or so, I think. I wanna say maybe Feathered Hat was the first one I listened to. I then immediately went back and listened to everything that had come before. I can't remember now how I heard about the podcast, I probably just googled it after I finished A Feast For Crows sometime in 2009.

I started listening... hell, three years ago? Maybe? I think I found y'all in spring '09. Someone on Something Awful mentioned y'all in the Bad Thread, if I remember right. It's been a long time and I drink a lot now, so who the hell knows.

I remember listening to an episode summer of 2009 for sure. Anyway, I have a 45-minute drive to and from work, so I listen to a shitload of podcasts and audiobooks. If I don't listen to y'all there, I listen at work and get weird looks from my coworkers when I try to keep snorts of inappropriate laughter in. I told them that I mostly listen to history, science, and literature podcasts (which is sort of true, ASoIaF is literature) so they're extra confused.

By the way, I'm pretty sure holding back laughter from the whole "Tard bastards" thing made me spill on myself. It was probably acid. I hope you're happy.

I started listening back in 2010. I'm like other folks who heard HBO was adapting the books and started reading them. I loved them of course and I've been pretty obsessed ever since. I really kick myself for not knowing about them sooner but I spent several years geeking out to Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and LOST, so I was kind of busy anyway ;)

I found you guys searching iTunes. I started from your first show and listened to all of them in my car and at work. At work has lead to some embarrassment because not too long ago while I was listening to one of the Guys Night Out (I think) a repairman walked in my office just in time for someone to say something about Tormund Giantsbane's giant cock.

You guys do a really good job of dropping the knowledge and telling the dick jokes everyone wants to hear.

Hi there,

George R.R. Martin mentioned your podcast on his Not A Blog after the release of A Dance with Dragons, and thankfully I decided to check it out. Since then I am addicted to your podcast.

When I have time I go back and listen to older episodes as well. :-)

Cheers

I started reading the books the summer before HBO aired the first season. HBO's interest was enough of a recommendation for me and I always like to read a book before seeing any adaptation. I then got totally obsessed with ASOIAF and randomly searched for podcasts to get some perspective/virtually bounce around ideas with other readers. APOIAF is hands down the best of the bunch because the hosts really know and love the books and mythos apart from just being fans of the TV show.

I found you guys on iTunes early last year, I think. Just searched for 'A Song of Ice and Fire' and you were the first option there.
Since I've started listening to this podcast, I haven't wanted to look for other ASOIAF-related podcasts -- you guys are the best :D

I decided to give the podcast a shot one night around 2AM or so, in bed. Now I listen to every episode at night/in bed, and once a week I'll check on my iPod to see if a new episode has been released.

Started listening by october 2011 after I finished the first 4 books... I think I saw a link from one of my friends on facebook or something... and got kind of addicted to this podcast, must have listened to all episodes while working...
I didn't really have people to talk with about the series, because not many of my friends have read the books or are still in the beginning of it... so it was good listening to other people's opinions about it...

Just discovered you a few days ago after watching one of Larry's reviews on Youtube. He got me curious and now i'm going through your episodes and really like what I'm hearing so far. Great job! Totally geeky and fun, loving it.

For my inaugural forum post, and per the directive at the end of podcast #75, here's my full I-Tunes review that may or may not have been edited short by the apple people. The last half of the review chronicles the how and why I sought out the podcast. So it should fit into this topic. Here it goes.

Mimi, Amin, Ashley, and Kyle are the coolest group of dorks I know of. On A Podcast of Ice and Fire, this core four discuss George R.R. Martin's monster hit fiction series and HBO's TV adaption "Game of Thrones" with a wonderfully entertaining balance of thoughtful analysis and funny critique. Each episode of the podcast somehow manages to be BOTH a free flowing fun listen, AND a melee of raunchy humor filled rants on the material. Readers owe this podcast a huge debt of gratitude, and I for one, am thoroughly grateful for their efforts on the interweb. After I discovered George R.R. Martin's World of Westeros on HBO, I devoured the 5 books in just a matter of months and instantly was overflowing with my new love and obsession. So naturally, I was desperate to talk to someone about them. Although I did manage to coax several friends and family members to start reading, my fanaticism was much more advanced than anybody I knew then, and I could do nothing but wait for them to catch up. I tried to enjoy the many fansites and yes, many are fun to peruse here and there. But none of the online articles, essays, forums, or blogs could fill my void on Ice & Fire. I needed a series of dorm room style, all nighter discussions with friends to satisfy me. So although it's perhaps a little sad that I couldn't literally find real friends to vent my dorkiness to, I was saved by the next best thing, APOIAF. Now that the second season is in full swing on HBO, their recap podcasts are certainly a highlight of my every week. And even more important, now that I'm eagerly awaiting the next book The Winds of Winter, I'm consuming the back catalogue and making every commute to and fro' a time for another Podcast of Ice & Fire. Thank you so much for the great work, core four. Please keep em' coming. (This is Michael J on the chatbox and still a virgin to the forum. Though I just registered.)

I learned of the podcast while looking for fanarts on deviantart. I think there was less than 10 episodes and I listened to all of them starting with the first one over a weekend while playing bejeweled. Now I listen to the podcast while drawing and it's likely the only reason I ever finish any picture (otherwise I'm too busy wasting time on the Internet to draw).
