WinterisComing.net -->/+ Larry (OtakuAssemble) = APOIAF

My first episode was the first one Larry was in, so since April 2011. :)

OK, here it goes…HBO GO shows up in XBOX 360, so I decided to see what the whole Game of Thrones was all about, and watched the whole season in 2 days. When Ned Stark got whacked, it blew me away, and I thought “This mother fncker is willing to kill off good characters! I mean offing Drogo surprised me, but Ned Stark shocked me.” So I went on line to research this whole thing, spoilers and all. (Spoilers tend to motivate me into investing time and money, so bring on the spoilers!)

Downloaded some podcasts, but the snarky-wisecracking-inside-jokes to insightful-thoughtful-critique quotient were way off. Sometimes, I would spend 20 minutes of traffic time listening to giggles and sarcasm to get to some thought provoking insights.

I then came upon the ALL LEATHER MUST BE BOILED podcast, and that show explored the moral, ethical, socio-political world of A Song of Ice and Fire and just got me more hooked. (But still not ready to commit to the books). Amin was a guest in the last few episodes of that podcast, and he really got down describing the culture of ASoI&F. So I went to download all the podcasts this place had to offer.

The snarky-wisecracking-inside-jokes to insightful-thoughtful-critique quotient is perfect, and didn’t annoy….I was hooked. And I decided to commit to the whole ASoI&F series, 2 weeks ago.

I’m in this car until the wheels fall off, homeys!

By the way, I love this site, it reminds me of the political sites I lurked around during the build-up to the 2nd Iraq War.

I'd tried reading GOT a couple of times, but I found the first few chapters really dull. When news of the series first broke in January '07 and a thread went up on TWOP, I gave it another try. Finally it clicked with me. So I read all the books as fast as I could.

After finishing AFFC, I started following GRRM's LJ. Sometime later, someone mentioned that the book cover with Cersei's cameltoe was mentioned on a podcast. The podcast I found was a chapter by chapter reread that only lasted a couple of episodes, and never mentioned it.

I went looking for another podcast, and found this one. My first episode was the first, because I'm obsessive enough to go right back to the start and continue on from there. However, I remember a decent backlog of episodes, so it must have been a while after it started.

I just found the podcast three days ago... I was searching on iTunes for something to listen to in the gym and I think it came up as the third result for "A Game of Thrones" search so I said I would give it a whack.

Such a disgustingly awesome podcast... Can't wait to get through the whole archive !!

Oops, turns out I first heard the podcast TWO years ago, not one year ago. Phil from WiC was a guest back in March 2010, which is the first time I listened. Holy crap, time flies.

I may not agree with some conclusions but it's fun listening to you all. Keep it up.

that was my comment on GRRM's livejournal! surprised that you didn't find our podcast though- at that time, a guy started the "ice and fire podcast," so ostensibly that's what you came across. meanwhile, we flew under the radar laughing at jon snow the anime hero.

I started listening near the end of 2010 when info started trickling out about season 1 production. Had found out about the books and devoured them in 2009 and was anxiously awaiting Dance.

Loved the great discussion and theories, and this is my must listen podcast every week.

You guys actually inspired me to start my own GoT podcast with my wife, who also is a big fan of the series although shes only halfway through Feast.

Keep up the great work!!!

George

I've been listening to 2 or 3 podcast episodes per day, recently.

You know you're addicted to the podcast when you start dreaming about it. Last night I dreamed I was hanging out with Mimi in her parents basement, eating jelly bellies and pizza.

A minecraft creeper? :)

I don't think I've posted in this thread yet so.... I started listening to the podcast last year after I had first started watching the show, I then found the podcast and bought the books and now I'm hooked.

I just.... kind of found it one day a few months before the first season of the show came out

I actually hadn't even read the books at the time and listened to a couple full episodes and then decided to start reading them

I had literally everything about the books spoiled for me by this podcast(except for dance of dragons) but I don't even mind

I'm very knew to the books and podcast. Watched series 1, read Game of Thrones then searched online. Needed more of a fix - who's Johns parents?etc found your podcast, started at the beginning, quickly realised It was about ALL the books :D so blitzed through the books faster than I had been. I need to do a reread since I scanned and missed lots of details.

Waiting patiently for the next installment. In my opinion this series has taken a few episodes to warm up. I hope I haven't ruined the show by reading the books. Series 1 blew me away/ hooked me but now I'm much more critical of it.

Podcast has had me proper laughing out loud alone in my flat and out shopping!! Manwoody, creakin doors, cracks me up!! Hits my dirty mind

also, i really love that we have managed to win over a tough critic with our base and unintelligible garbage. this makes me so very, very happy.

Yep, under the gentle tutelage of your podcasts, I eventually overcame my natural aversion to Manwoody.

I've only listened from Episode 32 onwards, but I wouldn't say it's all that base. Definitely not unintelligible. It might be lacking some flashy, professional-sounding polish... but that's part of the charm. It's like having a casual discussion about ASOIAF with friends... with at least a couple laugh-out-loud moments in every episode.

Seriously, you guys rock.

I started listening a couple months ago, just by searching "ice fire" on iTunes because I wanted to listen to some ASoIaF podcasts that responded to the latest GoT eps. The only way I can stay sane at work is to listen to radio shows or podcasts (music doesn't take my mind off my work enough) for pretty much 7 out of the 8 hours I'm working so I went through quite a bit back catalog in a very limited period of time, haha.

I started reading the books when I was a sophomore in high school (2004-ish) after my mom read them and started raving about them to the rest of the family, so I'm one of those who waited ages and ages for AFfC and ADwD. Since then, I've kind of made it my mission to convert as many of my friends as possible to series. (6 so far; rampant proselytizing works!)

I honestly can't remember when I started listening to the podcast, but I do recall listening while cooking in a kitchen from 2 apartments ago, so it has to be late 2008/early 2009. As to how I found the podcast... no idea. Probably a mention on Westeros or something. Currently I've been listening to some of the "greatest hits" at work and struggling to contain my laughter, which isn't always possible. I can feel my cubicle neighbors judging me, but as always, haters gonna hate. They don't understand the allure of the Manwoody. 8-)

When season 2 of game of thrones started I started listening to a few different podcasts recapping the show (boars, gore and swords, A cast of kings, The night watch). But I wanted something more in depth about the books. So I started searching around on iTunes and found boiled leather audio hour and I loved it so much and when Amin was on one of the episodes he mentioned being on A podcast of Ice and Fire so I started listenting to the podcast.

This all happened last week. So now I'm a huge fan of the podcast and have been working my way through the episodes. Definitely my favorite song of ice of fire podcast.

Please pardon me if any of this is superfluous...

I came to ASOIAF in early 2010, when I heard HBO was set to make a series (The NYT greenlit article caught my eye.). I read the first four books in two months and consider myself a book fan first. I have even succeeded in hooking my wife on the series.

When Season 2 was greenlit, I wanted to start to expand my knowledge of the fan community. While I do post under this handle at WiC, Tower of the Hand and Westeros.org, something was still missing, namely long, ramblingly awesome geeked out conversations about the books/show in a podcast format. Hence I was brought to APOIAF in roughly March, right before Season 2 and have remained a loyal listener ever since.

Didn't start listening to podcasts at all till early this year. A search in iTunes one day brought up aPoIaF, so I tried it out. First time listening, I was not impressed. It was one of those episodes that lacked focus and direction -- not a TV recap, not even much of a theme. Almost lost me at hello. But I guess I figured, anyone who loves the books as much as these folks do deserve a 2nd chance... and the 2nd time blew me away.

We certainly have a wide range of episodes as far as quality is concerned. Thanks for sticking with us.

I started listening after UsurpationBlitz cursed me out for talking about Cast Of Thrones. :-D

I always listen on the subway on the way to work, and on the way home. It's awkward laughing out loud in front of people, but hey. Sacrifices.
