Bloodraven says that you can't communicate with the past.
Bran also says that he tried to talk to his father (as a tree) but all he did was rustle the leaves (as he's a tree and trees can't talk!)
Leaf tells Bran that once upon a time the ravens DID talk, and that's how they sent messages. In fact, all of their ravens have been warged into by dead children of the forest.
Therefore: As a tree you can't communicate, but as a raven you can. However, you can see the past through a tree, and potentially the future (though we haven't seen this in action yet). As a raven you can talk to anyone in the present, though you can't go into the past.
So that would rule out Bran being in the Old Bear's raven until towards the end of ADWD, though the raven has had interesting things to say since we first met him. I reckon Bloodraven has been warging into the raven for a longtime, potentially even since he left the Wall.
Everyone still with me?

Speaking of Targs...if you want to have another reason to hate Seth McFarlane here's a big one...he's dating Emilia Clarke. Other than being rich, famous, handsome, and funny what does he have that I don't???
