I made the mistake of listening to the after show of this ep in my school's library. My constant snickering probably pissed off everyone. The after show was really the best I've heard from the podcast in a long time! It was a great combination of people!

I like the GRRM has made that part of Barristan's character arc. He's gone from the knight that would do his duty blindly, no matter the King, handed down from king to king watching the quality of men serving decline, not really knowing why he wanted to be in the KG at all, to a LC who has CHOSEN his ruler, and is finally in his old age learning who to play the game of thrones and is staring his own mortality in the face. Potentially Dany is the last person he'll serve, and he's chosen the ruler, who gives him agency and respects his opinion, and doesn't order him to commit senseless violence, and has similar beliefs. I think Barristan has one big act left before his end. If you wanted Barristan as your LC, you'd have to win him over to get the full potential out of him - something Robert never did, and Dany does to the fullest. I definitely agree about the character arc, but I remain doubtful of Barristan's ability to hold a situation.

Yeah it really depends on whether the Shavepate was playing/manipulating him just the way Ned was manipulated by Littlefinger. We really need to do an episode on Essos politics someday.

Don't say someday! Say 'soon'. It's much more optimistic. Though it would probably be better after a reread of ADWD, and that's a way off for you guys on the podcast.

Apparently his preferred dish is a deer and boar sausage. There's a restaurant in Portland Maine that serves it, it's really quite good. I'm a big fan no way! so that means I go where boars go? Exactly! (The restaurant is Fore Street (it's pricey and the menu changes so I can't promise boar) in case you are curious).

Still listening to the podcast while I'm tapping this out, but I wanted to lend my voice to the wild boar commentary.
I have a fair bit of restaurant background and a LOT of friends who went onto do DNR/ecology work. A lot of what we would classify as "Wild Boars" in the states are actually better termed "Feral Pigs". Pigs go feral VERY quicklyand I've heard and they have a habit of being rather dangerous and destructive to local ecosystems and human populations. I know quite a few of my DNR friends have gone feral pig hunting, we went down to texas on vacation for just that reason. I'm a not a particularly skilled hunter (unlike, it seems at times, MOST of Wisconsin) but they brought me along for my culinary uses.
From my experience Wild/Feral Pigs, in culinary terms, are very similar to farm raised pork in what you can do with the meat. Although the meat I got my hands on had a much more "woody" taste to it? Animals tend to taste a bit about what they eat, and since these pigs are running wild foraging for their food rather than being fed farm diets, the taste reflects that. Other than that there's the fairly obvious fact that its on the leaner side and many people have said it has that "gamey" quality that elk and venison is wont to have.

Boars go in the belly (one way or another, looking at Robert's case).
