Torture Theon, then get his trust...and convince Theon to reveal the actual truth under the guise of saving him...then completely break him by betraying him. It's a good master plan, and I feel it's something Ramsey probably did. After capturing Theon, he might have said that he is under orders from his father, but will try to save Theon because of their history, then betray him. I like it. It adds to the psychological torture, because we know Theon doesn't just get broken physically. Ripping off some toenails or fingers isn't enough to create the creature we meet in Dance. I agree it's all part of Ramsey's psychological torture plan for Theon, but I think he could have very easily pulled the same thing off by being outside the room and then coming in once the other guys left. "Hey I'm here to save you." I dont think Theon would have been like...."wait a minute. I didn't see you sweeping the floor. That means you're probably lying to me." This is a VERY nit picky thing though and if there's anything that doesn't warrant a single second of more thought this is definitely that.

Adriene wrote: Glad I could find the quote you were thinking of. And yes, I like chatting about this 'nitpicky' stuff too. I never got the sense (in the books) that there was a diference between wargs and skinchangers because, so far, Martin has not made a real reason for a difference. What I mean is that there is no real reason given why the people of this world would have a different name for a person who mind-melds with a wolf, as opposed to a person who mind-melds with an eagle or a bear. Why are wolf skinchangers singled out? Are wolves better? Why? I don't see it as a difference in character. It's just a label. The example I used in the comment section (because Ashley cosplays) was that every geek has the potential to be a cosplayer. But if you choose not to cosplay you cannot be called such. You, Ashley, are a geek and a cosplayer while I am only a geek. Skinchanger - Warg Science - Biology Religion - Christianity Math - Geometry Person - hipster Stark - Bran Skinchanger is the Genus. Warg is the Species(of this conversation). It's just a more specific label. I bet there are nicknames for eagle skinchanger and bear skinchangers and etc, but we just haven't heard them yet (George hasn't bothered to write them in).

I love the idea of a RIP segment to help us get closure for the characters we've confirmed to be cut from the material for screen.

I do too although I thought we saw left and right escorting Loras and Sansa to lady olenna. Or at least there were two guards who I assumed were left and write.

I also assumed they were Left and Right, but seems like most people think they were cut. Those two guards weren't in normal Lannister garb, were they?

The guards in question. They look pretty Lannister to me, they're at least wearing Lannister colors. I noticed them on my first watch and assumed that they were there to show that Cersei is making sure to keep a tail on Sansa at all times, which is why it seemed a bit odd that she spoke up so soon without any assurance that they weren't being watched.

Why are wolf skinchangers singled out? Are wolves better? Why?\ I agree that we don't know why wargs were given a distinct name in Westeros, whether it's more common, or less common, or significant for some other reason. My point is just that, even aside from GRRM's clarification on Boiled Leather, 'warg' is a word that is used outside of ASoIaF exclusively to refer to wolf creatures. From the text alone I think we can assume that people in Westeros distinguish between skinchangers generally, and people who specifically mind-meld with wolves.

Those are probably the same guards that tailed Sansa at the docks. I like to think they're both incompetent Lannisters of Lannisport named Fred and Greg. Fred and Greg tried their best to tail Sansa and Loras to the gardens but they couldn't penetrate Olenna's foolish flock of hens because they're uncomfortable around women. Even so, Greg tried his best to listen in from across the street but the clucking of the hens drowned out anything Sansa said. Later they were reamed by Tywin. YOU HAD ONE JOB.

Overall good episode, felt a little bit rushed, but that surely was because Ash was (nearly) sleeping and Amin was ill.

Aye the skin changer or Warg issue is so moot.
Barn can control wolfs, crows , hodor and trees Varamyr controls 3 wolfs, shadow cat, bear and a eagle.

Varamyr does seem to make some kind of distinction during his prologue. When he talks about being a warg, he seems to focus heavily on the wolf aspects.
So that's a thing. I'm not sure it's worth indulging what is obviously a highly semantic debate though.

I'm only just watching season 3 now, so will give this thread a self-indulgent bump and enthuse about how Olenna kept her conversation with Sansa and Margaery private.
She did it Japanese-style! At least, I remember reading a speech along these lines: "When you westerners want to speak in private, you close the doors. But we open all the doors and screens, so that we can see any eavesdroppers." -- which iirc was said by Tanaka to James Bond in You Only Live Twice. Olenna had her back to the parapet so that she could see everyone, identified the cheese waiter as a potential eavesdropper, and got rid of him. Well done, that gran.
It could even have been a dairy-themed proxy. A cheese connection replaced BUTTERbumps.
