I must have skimmed by it which I find strange knowing my immature sense of humor. This podcast has opened my eyes to the brillance of House Manwoody though.

yeah, and manwoody also totally went over my head. on the other hand - some of the more casual english terms I learned from listening to apoiaf. that is something you do not learn in school or from literature

Don't feel bad, Bronn, you were not the only one who failed to notice the Manwoody epicness the first time around. ;) And I have to agree with LordManderBlee, the podcast was a great help in bringing attention to this House. :feathered: (and the Houses who originated as branches of House Manwoody, of course)

No worries ;) I could fill a book with all the things I didn't pick up on the first read through. I was too engrossed in plot to do anything other than just power through names and descriptions.

Well I'll be a son of a gun, I just assumed that house Manwoody was APOIAF's immature sense of humor. Amazing. Dickon Manwoody...teehee.

I love Manwoody more and more (that's what she said) for just this reason. Everyone always thinks we're being immature and goofy, but it's cannon. I love it! It's the prize that keeps on giving. (that's also what she said.)

I get the "More" Manwoody, "Miles" of Manwoody, and good old "Dick" Manwoody, but where does Dagos fit in. Try as I might I don't, I can't find any double entendre or 12 year old humor.

Maybe Dagos means big in High Valyrian or dothraki or children of the forest tongue or elvish ;)

Dagos. Da, being a corrupted form of "the" and gos meaning "grand ol' schlong."

Don't be ashamed; NOBODY catches everything on their first readthrough of this series. My first two times I thought the Brave Companions was another name for the Brotherhood Without Banners, not the Bloody Mummers.

OK, I just read what I've written so far, and now I'm the one feeling ashamed. In my defense, the next 5 times* were much less confusing... And I figured out R+L=J without help from the internet during my 2nd go at AGoT. That's gotta count for something!

* Technically, I've only read ADWD twice so far, but I'm currently on the third pass, using STC's Feast-Dance combined reading order (the version that's friendly to new readers). Mostly getting everything now, but I'm admittedly still occasionally suffering the odd bout of minor Harzoo confusion...

I'm still not 100 percent sure what a mummer is. It's an actor, right? Or someone is a travelling acting/entertaining troupe, something like that?

Not if you are talking about The Bloody Mummers!

But otherwise, yes. In ASoIaF, a mummer is an actor. But in the real world:
mum·mer
Noun
1.An actor in a traditional masked mime, esp. of a type associated with Christmas and popular in England in the 18th and early 19th centuries.
2.A pantomimist.

Apparently they are mimes. Wow, that makes Varys creepier than I ever realized!
