If it's not too delicate a subject, how's the podcast operating cost burden these days? Just in broad terms, e.g. "about right for a hobby", "quiet martyrdom", "so light that I feel compelled to spend excess wealth on postage", etc etc.

haha, i'm fine. i just found this personalized stationary i received for christmas and decided it would be a good time to stop being awful and send out thank you notes to listeners. and then i remembered how fun the isketch nights were, so i thought it'd be cool to set that up again.

i'm pretty sure that getting fired would not result in my renewed devotion to the podcast community, but rather my slow and inevitable suicide via fried chicken.

the operating expense has been fine. upgrading our hosting to unlimited data was a little bit of a hike, but still totally reasonable. full disclosure; the stamps are filched from my office. maybe i do deserve to get fired.

You should mention the donate button on the podcast more often. I rarely go to the actual podcast home page, just the forums usually so I never really saw it there. I just donated (not just to get a letter). Also I'd be happy to send you all books as well if you'd be open to that, but for now I'm happy just sending something through Paypal.

i would definitely never solicit for donations; i was against the idea of even making it an option, but some wonderful listeners insisted. it never ceases to amaze me how generous and supportive people can be.

also if someone just like really, really wants mail from me (why?) i'm more than happy to send a letter.

I understand but you shouldn't be afraid to ask for support from the community that gets a lot out of what you all do. Even if Itunes or other platforms don't charge to listen there are still expenses. There are podcasts with millions of listeners that ask for donations every single episode, so I wouldn't be offended if you just drop a note in once in a while letting the listeners know there's an option.
