Episode 56: You Win or You Die
Episode 56 for the week of May 29th, in which we review the seventh episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Witness Kyle trying to defend Littlefinger’s sexposition scene, Ashley’s Hound rage spilling forth, as well as various other discussions that are probably unfit for human consumption.
And yes, we know this episode is late. Please direct all of your nerd rage towards Kyle. He secretly likes it.

Yes! I finally get to hear this entire episode.

You guys seemed so focused on the sexual aspect of that Littlefinger scene. I know no one is going to believe me but only a small fraction of my attention was on the whores. It was Littlefinger’s monologue that was so interesting. Yes maybe it’s a bit out of character from the book, but after his open chat with Varys in the series, whats wrong with talking to a couple whores? And how do we know that he never told whores about himself in the books?

the biggest thing about littlefinger in the books is that his plan is unknown. Littlefinger comes off as a very secretive person so why the hell would he tell some new whores that he doesn’t know that much about? and one coming from Winterfell?

Littlefinger’s plan is unknown because no one we know knows his plan. That doesn’t mean he’s never told anyone.
Maybe he really does have a weakness for redheads. As soon as Ros enters the picture he can’t help but tell his life story.

This is quite dangerous for little finger… Just by the way i’ve
perceived little finger in the books, I don’t believe he would
have made this sort of (mad-scientist-like monologue) i mean
mistake in that revealed some of his plot, unless it was part of a scheme.
But apparently he did and I’m sure if Martin disagreed he prolly
would have said something after reading the script for the episode.
*Damn You Martin for your flip-floppity-ness*

I’m with you Kyle. The monologue is great, the scene with the whores is great. I liked how James for the Tuned In blog at Time said it was more about Littlefinger setting up and executing deception, what they (the whores) are doing is a metaphor/allegory of what Littlefinger does to all the powerful people of Westeros, not just Ned.
I guess the producers felt that we had to have some sort of justification for Littlefinger’s betrayal of Ned, so non-readers wouldn’t be like WTF?
Plus for people who don’t like that he is revealing too much to a couple of whores, especially Ros from Winterfell, he’s telling them A story, who is to say that it is THE story.

Yeah I couldn’t help but think. What if Ros runs to the queen and is like..”ummm ok so that littlefinger guy said that he’s not good with a sword so he’s going to outsmart his enemies because he loves some average looking woman with red hair.”
And Cersei says “Get this whore out of my site.”

“What they (the whores) are doing is a metaphor/allegory of what Littlefinger does to all the powerful people of Westeros.”
That’s perfect.
He fucks everyone with his words.

I’m with you as well Kyle. In the books we don’t get to see every single character’s POV. That’s why I like the series so much. We get to see things we never saw in the books. Like robbs initial reaction to sansa’s note. We get to see non POV character’s interactions with one another, and we get a more intimate view of them.

Regarding the mysterious sixth Kingsguard, my best theory would be that the missing member is with Robert’s body standing vigil. We saw this tradition in the books when Tywin died, and it makes sense that the Kingsguard is expected to perform this duty when the king dies. I have no idea if the producers thought that far into it, but that’s how I justify the missing member.

Put’s my mind at ease Hot Pie! I just couldn’t remember if there was another member, besides Jamie, that was away from King’s Landing. But your explanation works for me. Thanks.

Good call. That was really bugging me. When Barristan says “even now i could cut through the FIVE of you…” it always seemed odd that they wouldn’t have the full Kingsguard in there. But you’re justification works for me.

The problem I have with Cersei in the series is that we’ve had several instances where Cersei says that she did love Robert at the beginning and thought they had a chance together. Meanwhile, I just read the scene in AFFC where Cersei is thinking about Rhaegar and saying how she never forgave Robert for killing him.

On the “It’s all Sansa’s fault” thing-
although Ned told Cersei WHAT he planned to do, Sansa told her WHEN and HOW he planned to do it, so maybe Cersei was right to say that without Sansa she couldn’t have taken down Ned, and therefore it IS all Sansa’s fault.

Littlefinger’s scene was great.

First off Ned’s people don’t take care of his kids cause she was in a room secured by Cersei for 3 days before shit hits the fan. Someone should have said something to Ned. Second Robert had already left for the hunt. Lancel would have already been instructed to get Robert drunk and come back dead. Does knowing that Sansa and Arya are being shipped back to Winterfell really matter by that point because Ned doesn’t stall his plan till they are outta there. No. Does Cersei not realize Ned is gonna act once Robert is mortally wounded and Joffery will become King?
Ashley is right. Cersei is just an idiot.

I thought that the Sansa chapter following Ned’s arrest said that Sansa told the queen, Trant escorted her to the chamber where she was locked in, and she heard the fighting start within the hour.
I’m not saying Cersei’s not’s an idiot, I’m just saying that I think that the time between Sansa’s telling Cersei and all hell breaking loose was a matter of hours and not days.

She’s taken before the queen on the 3rd day of her confinement. On the day Ned was captured, Sansa had breakfast with him and then went off to tell Cersei while Arya went to a dancing lesson. Ned was called to the throne room within two or three hours.

5 knights confronting barristan = 6 Jaime is gone and he would be the seventh. Kyle your math makes me cringe.

just teasing btw

Oh man it’s been awhile since I’ve seen this episode, but now you’ve got me doubting my memory. I was pretty sure there were only 5 kingsguard, including Barristan, in the throne room. So then Jamie would be 6th and then the missing Knight in White.
Or maybe I just failed counting class in kindergarten.

JOSHY
I have a theory about the missing kingsguard, wasn’t there a kingsguard in the Syrio confrontation? maybe they had one missing to keep people guessing as to whether Syrio made it out alive or not.

I do remember barristan saying “I could cut through the 5 of you like carving cake” so it could be that there was 5 plus barristan but i can’t remember either.
Jun 10th, 2011
Kyle
I’m pretty sure Barristan says “I could cut through the 5 of you” because The Hound also has his sword drawn. So he is bunching Sandor in with the 4 White Knights.

They had him skinning a real skag…err sorry… a real stag on camera? I can’t imagine PETA is going to be very happy with that. Where did you come across this info Tom?

It’s mentioned in the Behind the Episode for #7 (http://www.hbo.com/video/video.html/?autoplay=true&vid=1184475&filter=game-of-thrones&view=null), and I think I read it in some of the reviews too.
