Episode 2: BOL
Episode 2 for the week of March 23rd, in which we focus on the central theme of death in the series. Here, we discuss the character deaths that impacted us the most, and make lousy predictions.

LOL, Eddard got “a chink in his honor” and initially Mimi sounded a bit taken aback. Your fellow podcaster isn’t a horrible racist it turns out 🙂

Also, this might sound dumb on the surface, but in my opinion the best parts of this episode were when you guys went freestyle and let yourselves get derailed. It felt much more like a natural conversation I guess.

If you only knew how much we got derailed this episode. Ashley does an awesome job editing, huge props to her.

Another entertaining episode. One nitpick though. Could you guys post links to the covers you guys were talking about and the busts from the first episode? I tried looking for them myself but I’m lazy/stupid and gave up after a minute.
Also, a theme song would be cool too.

I’m really happy you guys got another podcast out so soon! Just like the last one, it was a lot of fun to listen too, even with the whole hour-plus time frame. I agree with Chris in that a lot of the best parts were the ones where you guys got a bit off-track. It’s great that you guys can do that without meandering too far off. I’m super excited for the next one ^_^
Now, ahem, time to go into ultra-geek mode…
Alas, Chris, I believe the term you’re looking for is Yaoi. Yayoi is actually the early prehistory time period of Japan when rice first began to be cultivated…not that it really matters.
Ok, ultra-geek mode is now off. sorry bout that >_<

Another very enjoyable podcast, and I like the fact that they’re quite long.

I enjoyed this episode, guys and gals. On the topic of saddest deaths, one character that struck a chord with me was Yoren. Anyway, looking forward to the next episode, and I too enjoy the long length of these podcasts.

Ok, hmm, trust me I am not trying to be a jerk or anything, because I really enjoy these. I have some problems with the way you guys handled this topic. First of all, I think it was too early for you to do this topic, but that was your choice of course, and this is why. First of all, besides the exception of maybe Eddard Stark, you missed the 4 most important deaths in the entire series. Robert Baratheon’s Death was probably the most significant even more than Eddard’s, we did not have a Robert POv, but look what his death set off. How about Lyanna Stark, the death that really shaped the kingdom. Tywin Lannister, quite possibly the most entertaining death besides red viper/gregor. And finally Renly Baratheon, not in league with these other three, but just as important as Robb and Joff.
And these are some things I found weird, the 2 girls, you both want Rickon to die, hes like 5 haha, thats crazy.
You also want the hound with Sansa, I get that you don’t like Sansa, but thats a terrible thing to wish on her.
Basically Hot Pie and Gendry both deserve to die. Everyone hates Sansa for some reason because she is weak and scared. Well Hot Pie and Gendry are male characters and they are even worse. Arya basically saves them from lives of torment and servitude and they turn their backs on her.
Oh and finally, the only thing that has annoyed me in the entire podcast. Please quit saying Arya is 8 years old. She was 9 at the start of the series, and nearly 12 now.
Sorry if this sounds critical its really not, its just some of my views on what could have been done better. I love the pc. I totally agree with all the other guys too, the freestyle is great.

a podcast of ice and fire
thanks for the heads up, ranskey. you’re definitely right, we didn’t cover some important deaths in the podcast. part of the issue is that we’re confined by a time limit and can’t necessarily cover everything we’d like thoroughly in each episode. if we omit something important altogether, though, it’s probably because it’ll get special attention in a later episode. you can bet that the character deaths you brought up have their own place in certain later episodes.
thanks for the clarification on arya’s age, i appreciate it. sometimes i find it hard to appreciate the time stagger in the series and the exactly aging of characters.
but please don’t generalize- i for one don’t particularly hate sansa for being “weak and scared.” while she’s not my favorite character, i find her chapters interesting to read and i’m sure that not everyone involved in the podcast makes that comment about her.
again, thanks for the concerns and clarification, it’s appreciated. as long as we’re not ultimately disappointing and upsetting the listeners, we’re happy.
ps – consider dropping in as a guest host for an episode eventually?

We can’t discuss everything, and trying to please everyone is never going to work. If you’re going into these podcast topics expecting us to cover every single square inch on the weekly topic, I would advise just to stop listening and read some forums instead.
The podcast is centered around opinion and discussion of those opinions — not every character that ever died or whatever the topic is is going to get discussed. We don’t have the time, and quite frankly a lot of it just doesn’t translate well into banter.
For example, I had a REALLY hard time contributing anything to Part 2 of episode 3, because it’s a subject I’m not particularly interested in. I’m sure when that episode comes out, theres going to be a lot of comments saying “WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THERE ARE PLENTY OF RELATIONSHIPS! AAAARGGGGHHH THIS EPISOOOOOODE!”

Damn, I knew that would come off as critical, not really my intent lol. Sorry, Aaron. I read message boards anyways, and I enjoy the podcast way too much to quit listening lol. As for the guest host thing, sure ill drop in w/e you would like. Just let me know.

Hello, everyone! I am a few months behind on the podcast of ice and fire bandwagon, but I thought I might share a few thoughts.
First a foremost, this is an excellent attempt to fill a void that has long been missing. No one I know is as obsessed with this series as I am, and I need an outlet for discussion. This is helping fill that void.
Second, I might have accidently fallen in love with Mimi.
Third, One of the Male commentators made several comments and or suggestions that are just plain wrong. He also gets almost every name wrong that he tries to bring up. I would suggest that a mostly complete knowledge of the series be a criteria for commentators that you bring into the fold in the future.
Thanks again for the podcast. I hope to get caught up with you soon!

While Chris is overbearing and really annoying, I would argue that Mimi is equally annoying.
