Episode 68: The Return of Mimi

Episode 68 for the week of February 19th, in which we continue our reread of A Clash of Kings, chapters 9 (Davos I) and 10 (Theon I).  The podcast is back in full force, and brings you yet another crackpot theory authored by our very own Amin.  Bonus: Mimi tells Kyle to shut up about forty times!

Listeners can follow along our reread progress and comment for future episodes here.

Welcome back Mimi! I’ll write up something new once I finish this episode, but *big hug* welcome back.

  2. Usurpationblitz

Great episode from all of you. I just made a topic on the General Discussion board about getting a date with Mimi, so I hope that will help you out. [=D

  3. mimi

  4. Kyle

    wowza!

    Welcome Back Miss Mimi!

To defend my Maester Cressen theory –
This is the very beginning of the Stannis/Mel relationship. Stannis does not yet trust in her powers. So he does not think he needs guards or to lock him up. Cressen is feeble and Stannis believes taking Pylos away will be sufficient. Later in the same situation he does throw Davos in the dungeon to protect both Davos and Melisandre.

Killing Balon is just not Robert’s style. If you are not a Targaryen, then Robert is very gracious and forgiving to defeated Lords. Robert always looks to turn an enemy into a friend. Balon is scared shitless of Robert and Ned. As long as they were alive he would never have dared to poke his bony head up. It is only after someone else kills them that he trys anything.

One character from the TV show that I like a lot more than in the books is Samwell. I can’t stand him but the actor/writing makes him very fun in the show.

Please do not make Guys Night Out IV Episode 69. I can hear the survival homosexuality jokes already.

HAHA yessss !!! im not the only one who thought Damphair was Professor Damfair 😉 … and i dont use kyles dumbass method of fantasy characters names pronunciation …. I proudly said Hermione correctly before the movies came out !

  7. Anonymous

I read it as Damfair too

  8. JAZ

    That was me. Sorry

  9. Christina

Ashley! I also said Damfair… I guess I thought it was a title or something, and it reminded me of the French word for crown prince, “dauphin”. And since you’re Canadian and know Frenchie things and since I am so worldly, I will go ahead and claim that we are just too smart for these books. 😉

  10. Kyle

    “We are glad the Dauphin is so pleasant with us;
His present and your pains we thank you for:
When we have match’d our rackets to these balls,
We will, in France, by God’s grace, play a set
Shall strike his father’s crown into the hazard. “

  11. missmollygrue (@missmollygrue)

Or “dampire” (daam-peer), the human/vampire abomination.

  12. Sisaat

When I read “dauphin” I think about it’s other meaning (dolphin) first, but that might have to do with French being my first language and dolphins coming up in conversation a lot more. I did read it Damfair at first.

  13. pjstwo

I am ashamed to say I was on the Damfair bandwagon as well.

  14. ranjitb

I’m sorry to rain on everyone’s bandwagon and get their hair damp, but anyone who felt confusion about a character called “DampHair” who is literally introduced in a paragraph describing how his hair is always wet with sea water…..well that’s too retarded even for THIS podcast.

  15. Christina

Uh, that’s really insulting. Don’t take that attitude on this forum or use that word please. I understand heated arguments, but outright name-calling is not cool.
And if I may make a defense: the first time the word “Damphair” is used, Aeron is NOT described as having damp or wet or anything hair (only that dried seaweed is braided in it). So it’s not an immediate connection made between the word and a description. And it’s used as a title where everyone starts bowing to Aeron, so again, my first thought was that it’s a title.

  16. pjstwo

    don’t feed the trolls.

  17. Ash

yes, reading new words phonetically, how silly of me.

  18. Yup. Team Dam”f”air represent!

  19. Jeremy

I honestly don’t remember how I said it in my head at first. Shortly after reading AFFC, I found that amazon had posted an audio clip of GRRM reading a chapter, which happened to be “The Drowned God.” So, I heard George say “Damp-Hair” very early on.

  20. missmollygrue (@missmollygrue)

Kyle, I totally got your Pirates of Dark Water reference.

  21. Christina

Ooo! Me too! I watched that show religiously… but can’t remember much about it now…

  22. Anonymous

    Loved pirates of darkwater

  23. Fishsticks

    My bad, that was me

  24. Sam

    Yay Mimi!

  25. Jason

Great episode. Great to have Mimi back. I really missed her sharp and blunt approach. And don’t worry Mimi, you’re a 9 on the manwoody scale. Keep your head up.

  26. I’m glad to hear Ashley and Mimi together and the guys also.
Amin was very good on Boiled Leather, it’s also a good podcast.
We want a new episode every week, stop being lazy bums, what do we pay you for 🙂

  27. Fishsticks

Things I learned from this weeks episode.

Mimi is a subscriber to Taco bell’s weekly Newsletter

Kyle is incredibly bitter about receiving no love for getting that GRRM sound bite for the podcast.

Amin has gone crackpot theory crazy

Ashley is still deeply into cosplay. – which is awesome

and Mimi is really jealous of Amins man crush on Elio and Elio’s beautiful flowing mane of hair

    Great episode guys

  28. DaAlCh

Haha. When you type in ‘A Podcast of Ice and Fire’ on Google, the second automatic result is ‘A Podcast of Ice and Fire Mimi.’

    The two are truly intertwined.

Its glad to see you back with the podcast Mimi!

  29. brynden

the correct word would be “intermingled” 🙂

  30. Dickon Manwoody

    ziiing!

  31. Dani_boox

yay! a new podcast!! WITH mimi!

  32. We thought you might like this app we’ve built. Hodor is the new Siri: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrEADPHRj7c&hd=1

  33. Kyle

Nice. Those are definitely better responses then Siri gives.

  34. Howland Reed's Wrath

I can’t believe people didn’t feel sorry for Theon. His father treats him like shit. He was so pathetic even as he was capturing winterfell.

  35. Jeremy

I felt sorry for him for the way Balon “welcomed” him home. I would guess not feeling sorry for him overall stems from every decision he made afterward.

  36. Howland Reed's Wrath

Well. I mean he’s not very competent. But once he gets sent on this mission to treat with is father he’s pretty much screwed. All he can do is either participate in the attack on the North or get thrown in a dungeon. Mostly its Robb’s fault for leaving the North poorly defended and sending Theon.
