Episode 7: Guys Night Out in Westeros
Episode 7 for the week of May 11th, in which the male members of the podcast crew (Chris, Aaron, Amin, and Ben) discuss brews and battles, warriors and wenches. This is the first of two special episodes- the second one will be the girls night out version. Stay tuned for the end of this episode to hear a special closing discussion that may get more than just Aaron fired for once.

I was kinda thinking of dressing up as some random westeros dude (no one specific). But I’m still putting a kit together. I figure someone needs to make a fool of themselves. Maybe it will give you guys courage.

Yay for guys night out! I was sipping on beer, playing Madden 08, and laughing my ass off at the podcast. I think you guys should have talked about booze and wenches some more but still overall a good time.
And why in the HELL would you take Mimi to a desert island? Yah she’s hot, but she would make you build yurts the whole time and shoot arrows into your ass if you disobeyed her. =) I would take Ashley 2.0.
Can’t wait to hear the girls night out.

ha ha nice one jovi. Man I was like ‘what the hell?’ when amin posed the question of who to take to a desert island. At first I was thinking ‘oh haven’t they already spoken about the characters they wanna bang?’
ah! where’s the humanity? ashley sounds sweet and looks nice enough judging by the pic. You dudes are all truly tasteless fiends!!! *hmph* enough said.

i so should’ve listened closer to the ending before recording the girls night -_-

I hope you guys appreciated my wholey professional, politically correct response to an ackward questions and I would have choosen you Ashley 1 if you just weren’t a Canadian. I hope you understand that.

Barring the stark contrast in appearance, you guys describe Mimi as a pseudo-Melisandre.
May 12th, 2008
Mimi
i do have red hair.
also, you’re all fired.
May 13th, 2008
Chris
Actually I think Mimi is more akin to a psuedo-Cersei.
She is so going to kick my ass for that one.

I’ve been going through the podcast archives and have rather enjoyed it, but episode 4 – ‘tard bastards,’ is missing, or archive.org decided to fuck up its hosting or something. Please advise.
I AM AT MY WIT’S END

Shift your blame toward Mimi 😉
Mimi: You do not strike me as Cersei, unless you have momentary lapses of insanity and are open to incest.

s. brakel – honestly, i have no clue. i clicked the link on the sidebar and it’s working fine for me. can someone else try and see if it works for them or not?

This has happened to me too. My solution is just to directly download the mp3 file by right-clicking + save as
Tell me if this helped at all

Dear Diary,
I listened to the podcast again to day. It was a regular sausage fest filled mostly with man on man crushes.
P.S. His name is Strong Belwas! Shame !SHAME!
P.S.S. Mimi is clearly Asha, because we know how much she loves her nuncle!
May 13th, 2008
Amin
Mo, I knew that, I was joking about “The Fat” part =P That’s the way I see him in my head, and on some HBO casting threads.

s. brakel, the link works fine for me, now. Early the site that hosts our podcast was getting too much traffic or doing some sort of maintenance. It’s happen to me before and you just have to wait a bit before it’ll work again. 😉

Is there any talk about Ben morphing into Tommen sometime soon? Chris and Aaron kinda let our hopes down with the Shae thingy.
May 13th, 2008
Amin
I was hoping for the some comments on the music at the very end; I went with using some very oldschool tracks for this guys’ episode =P

Ahhhh Diable now those were the days. Sucks for Griswold and the town. After getting a mouthful from Deckard Cain I have no fond memories of D2.
By the way Amin I had a question for you about the Sheriff and his deputy. Did Polliver and the Tickler actually know that Arya was with Sandor? I agree that the innuendo leading up to it was awesome, but I’m still unsure why the situation erupted into a fight. Were Gergors’ men simply trying to earn browney points by bringing him in? I get the feeling that after he fled no one really cared about the Hound.

Ugh…too much ale and dornish wine. I love and hate my fraternity so much right now…When is girls night out? I could use a good laugh. 😛

I just know how important Strong Belwas is to the story. I mean he is obviously TPTWP! Not to mention he is the physical incarnation of Martin within his series. =P

Is anyone else having trouble getting this episode from the RSS feed besides me?
I’ll look into it if so.

So random related Ice and Fire question for anyone.
Who is Valarr? I was re-reading the Hedge Knight and I noticed the name. Is he just anothe one of Egg’s brother? clue me in guys.

Aaron
Found whats wrong with the RSS feed, but I have no idea how to fix it since apparently Feedburner doesn’t want to let us actually edit our feed…
If you go here:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/APodcastOfIceAndFire
You’ll notice it doesn’t say ‘play now’ under episode 7.
Apparently I expect too much out of a feed service to be able to go back and edit the previous feed, because I’ve been over pretty much every square inch of Feedburner’s website and can’t find an option to do so.
Sorry for the setback this epsiode if you’re really lazy, and can’t click about three or four times and save it manually.
Also, blogger comments are retarded since apparently I can’t use the >url< tag. AND it won't let me post this unless i reverse the bracket thingies.
May 14th, 2008
Anjou
Yeah the comments do stink a bit. Maybe in the future y’all can set up a mini-forum?
Mo:
I tried putting the html twice but blogger is being mean, just search valarr on towerofthehand.com

We’ve talked about getting a real domain and stuff setup, but so far our biggest problems have been apathy / lazyness, and that iceandfirepodcast.com is already being squatted on. Mimi and Chris are the ones who really started this up, and weren’t even aware of that website / project when they started. If you’re observant, you’ll see the first and only post there is before our first stuff got rolled out. We haven’t attempted to contact the guy, but it looks like his project is in limbo.
We want to keep the podcast name, but we can’t think of a domain that is easy to remember, and relatively short. Maybe you guys can help.
May 14th, 2008
Anjou
Got ya. I have noticed that website and have been directed to it quite a lot. If you guys prefer, make a poll when we have a good number of name candidates.
May 14th, 2008
Jovi
I think the domain should be iceandfire69.com. But thats just me. 😛
No, how about http://www.westerospodcast.com?
May 14th, 2008
Sam
How about asoiafpodcast.com?
May 15th, 2008

We wanted to avoid that acronym since it’s pretty awkward to say in a sentence unless you’re staring at it being spelled.

So I’m thinkin the girls were too afraid to challenge the almighty podcast that is “guys night out”. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing. They should be in the kitchen, making me some pie. =P

Jovi, the guys night out episode hasn’t even been out for a full week yet… :/

Interestingly enough, I just realised that, despite this being a guys only podcast, the swearing was reduced to a much lower level than when Mimi is present. 😀
oh, btw, nice diablo and warcraft 2 music at the end.

Just an example of why you should spend 10bux right now and join SA. From the “Reasons I no longer work Retail” thread:
Got a call in today about a purse. She wanted to know how much it would weigh if you “filled it”
“Well, it depends on what you put in it. If you carry around a purse full of marshmallows, it’ll weigh less than a purse full of bricks” and I laugh, making it a joke.
There’s silence.
“Why would it weigh different?”
“Hm?”
“Well, it’s still full, it would weigh the same.”
“Um…”

Just some thoughts on episode ideas: What would have happened if-
Ned had not taken the Hand OR Sansa had not told Cercei of the plan to leave Kings Landing OR If Robb and lived . . .You get my point.
May 16th, 2008
Anjou
Or… something about Asshai. I have a feeling they will be central to the final books. But thats just be.
Everytime I think of it, Bastards of Ice and Fire sounds better each time lol

I was only being a silly billy hun. I know you guys will probably have a much better show. 🙂
-TonySnow
I’m fond of girls, I’m fond of friends, but when you put those two things together it doesn’t seem to work out. 😛
Oh and I gotta agree with Anjou. Bastards of Ice and Fire sounds pretty catchy.

Jovi that was funny. hehehehe
Bastards! Bastards! Bastards!

Good episode even if it was a little unfocused.
It would be much easier to discuss each episode and other more general topics with a forum.
Aaron, you can use an >a url=”blah.blah.blah”< to make links with the symbols reversed obviously.

Could I become a part of your little group? I’ve been a faithful listener and often wish I could add to the discussions. Anyway keep it up. I love it.

I like Tony Snow’s idea about hypothetical situations. One I would like to explore would be what if Edmure Tully didn’t delay Tywin Lannister at the RUby Ford? The entire war could have been changed…
May 17th, 2008
Amin
Interestingly enough we’ve been thinking about doing a “what if” episode. If we do we will certainly post about it before hand and some ideas from the listeners.
Nancy, eventually we may do shows with a guest listener to take part in, especially if we have another special show where we only have half the podcast. At the moment, I am working on getting an answering machine working on skype, at which point we could take audio comments from people, and possibly even put some comments into our episodes.

ok I’m kinda twiddling my thumbs here. Can someone explain why Sandor had to go up against Polliver and Tickler? Big deal he ditched kings landing. What do they care?
May 17th, 2008
Jovi
Wormlips,
They were Gregor Clegane’s bitches. They wanted to bring their master a treat, and they firgured Sandor would be it.
May 17th, 2008
womlips
Yeah that’s what I initially thought, and yet it seems way too simplistic. I got the feeling that Martin was just trying to poleaxe Sandor into humility, and simultaneously allow Arya to move two steps closer to complete revenge. Violence and cruelty are part of what makes Arya’s chapters satisfying.
May 17th, 2008
Enderlost
Sandor was pissed off just enough, and drunk enough, to fight them. If you go back and read the scene again the two grown men are trying to get the squire to shut up and let Sandor drink in peace. However, They realize about half way in that there’s gonna be a fight so they start it in an effort to get the jump on Sandor
May 17th, 2008

Question: Does anyone know the color on Bran’s eyes?
I’m curious and its kind of important. I know that all of the kids except for Arya and Jon are noted as having the “Tully look” versus the “Stark look” but does anyone know for sure?
And if you do, could you point me to the page

How come this episode doesn’t show up in iTunes?
May 17th, 2008
Aaron
Probably the same reason why it doesn’t show up in RSS. Look at my earlier comment.
Something went wrong when Mimi uploaded it or something from what I understand.
This does, however, just reinforce my opinion that Google is awesome and can do no wrong, because that feed is perfectly fine and dandy.

Chris is the first person I’ve come across that believes in my theory.
Littlefinger, Varys, Doran, and Illyrio are all working together.
I’ve believed Littlefinger and Varys have been working together since I first read about them and how they kept telling Ned not to believe anything he hears, and not to trust anyone. I’ll we were told in that book was that they had separate people working for them, if you reread them thinking about them working together a lot of stuff jumps out that makes since.

Snipe Hunting!
I’m with you Aaron.
To catch a snipe you have to go out into fields and bang on pots and pans. They like loud noises. It also helps to dress up in bright colors, the brighter the better.
You’ll know a snipe when you see one because they have really long noses, like Pinocchio.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snipe_hunting
“The origin of the term is a practical joke where inexperienced campers are told about a bird or animal called the snipe as well as a usually ridiculous method of catching it, such as running around the woods carrying a bag or making strange noises. Incidentally, the snipe (a family of shorebirds) is difficult to catch for experienced hunters, so much so that the word “sniper” is derived from it to refer to anyone skilled enough to shoot one.”

Hi guys.
I left a post a couple podcasts ago, I’m a newer listener. Just a question for future listeners or people who might want to listen in on this one: is there a way to fix the audio quality on this particular podcast? I had trouble listening to some of it. There was some static and whatnot.

You forget Melissandre being the best MILF! Shadowbabies count, right? Great episode, I’m listening to them all from the being. I liked the Diablo music at the end lol.
