Episode 8: Girls Night Out in Westeros

Episode 8 for the week of May 18th, in which the superior (female) members of the podcast (Mimi, Ashley, and Ashley 2) discuss the female characters of ASOIAF, sex scenes, and who we would like to see play the characters on screen. This is the counterpart episode to the Guys Night Out, and yes, we also answer the question posed by Amin in the last episode but with a little twist.

Nice roar in the beginning, Very Lannister of you πŸ˜‰

I can’t deny I have a lot of love Dany and Sansa, though. My favorite players in the Game (although no in the series knows it yet barring a few).

    Great job again

  2. Chris

Hey girls, no need to beat around the bush, tell me what you really think of me.
For the record, I am 33.
    Christ.

  3. Aaron

I just got off work, so I won’t be able to see what the hags gossiped about us. But, I did notice already that the RSS feed worked this time.

    :toot:

  4. wormlips

Aragorn being bad ass and manly?! pfft Wise learned Maddox called him the fairy king and I completely agree with that. Except for his awesome role in ‘a history of violence’, viggo mortensen looks way too wimpy. Catelyn is definitely a wicked step-mother to Jon, and even more so now. I always wondered how a reunion with undead Catelyn and Jon would turn out. Oh and I liked the interesting twist on the desert island thingy. Everybody enjoys a human bonfire!

  5. wormlips

oh and did someone say that ben/tommen is gone? Thats a real shame because amin and him were the gurus of the show.

  6. Ashley 2

No, no, no. Ben is definitely NOT gone.

  7. lina

    I have a serious girlcrush on Ashley 1. :O

  8. Jovi

Well ladies that was amusing. I kinda puked a little when someone said that the scene where Jaime saw Brienne’s bush was cute or whatever. NO! Not cute. Jaime was so sex-starved that he actually responded to that muscled, thickly-jungled woman. Hehe, and it was also real funny that Ben got sloppy thirds, after everyone else was picked. πŸ˜›

  9. wormlips

Jovi, I find your humor at the expense of the Child King Ben to be wanting. Tommen will one day be overlord of Westeros and can have any hoochie mamas he wants. All hail the Supreme Lord of Pootang!

  10. Anjou

I am so confused. I don’t why but I am.

  11. Matt

I’m scared to listen to this one. I have the feeling that poor Catelyn will get more abuse heaped upon her head.

  12. Rick

My itunes seems to be having problems updading this podcast, it still hasn’t updated episode 7 is there somthing im doing wrong?

Btw you could talk about art of ice and fire but all the pictures wouldn’t be on the net i suppose.

  13. Aaron

Rick- Something went wrong with the uploading and feedburner screwed up the RSS feed for episode 7. This episode should be working.

  14. Jovi

*cringes in fear at the thought of King Ben’s revenge* You’re right! I guess I’m going into exile.

  15. wormlips

That’s the spirit! Serve in exile with pride and whatever shred of dignity you have left to you. Maybe, just maybe, our most merciful Lord of King’s Landing will allow you to return, only so long as your wits are intact.

  16. Jovi

*nurses his small shred of dignity*

  17. Jakob Lightbringer

I think Chris and Mimi doth protest too much. They are obviously in denial of the volatile sexual chemistry. Muy Caliente!

  18. Rick

Cheers i directly downloaded it from this site its all good.

  19. Tiffany

Hey, you girls started to mention casting ideas for the possible HBO series. I don’t know if you’ve seen this guy’s ‘dream-casting’ for the show, but if you are planning on doing a whole podcast about it it’s a great place to start. Even though I don’t agree with all of his ideas for characters, he’s got head-shots and pictures for every actor so it’s a fabulous online visual aid for a discussion.

  20. Enderlost

I love that list. Too bad casting budget would be extravagant with nothing left for production.

Still looking for the color of Bran’s eyes. Any help would be greatly appreciated

  21. Ashley 2

Enderlost, Bran has the Tully coloring. So, it’s safe to assume he has the same color eyes as Cat and the rest of his siblings, well, except Arya and Jon for obvious reasons.

  22. Enderlost

thanks, what I thought. I was just asking some people who might know better than I.

  23. Anjou

Okay, I recently started a discussion that strikes at the evil root that is R+L=J

In my argument, I say that Jon is not the son of Prince Rhaegar, but none other than a product of incest between Ned and Lyanna. Thoughts?

  24. Enderlost

    feel like laying it out?

  25. wormlips

wow anjou thats a big speculation. I just don’t think we have been provided with enough information to give a theory based on such a union any credit. Nevertheless, I LIKE IT!

  26. Jovi

Anjou, that is quite the grand speculation. It would be one hell of a plot twist, but I don’t think that’s the case.

  27. Anjou

Of all the Houses, the Starks appear to be the goodie two-shoes. Ned was completely obsessed with Lyanna, a bit too obsessed and Jon’s Starkish appearance suggests it. Westeros.org has got more on it.

  28. Jakob Lightbringer

*Drawing Ice and looking into anjou’s eyes*
Do you have any last words?

  29. wormlips

*valiantly jumps in between Anjou and Ice* Friends! Can’t we all just get along?

  30. Ashley 2

    Hi Anjou.

While I believe that the Lyanna + Rhaegar = Jon theory is pretty convincing I don’t like it at all (I hold a small amount of hope for another little crackpot theory). However… I don’t see Jon’s parents being Ned and Lyanna because Ned is far too honorable to do anything like that. I’d be curious to see what evidence you have concerning Ned and his obsession over Lyanna because I don’t know of any.

    πŸ™‚

  31. Jovi

Since I despise House Stark’s black and white view of the world, I would love if that kinda scandal came to pass. But again…I just don’t see it happening. :/

*protect’s Anjou with his body against Jakob*

  32. Jakob Lightbringer

    *sigh*
If you can’t look a man in his eyes and hear his last words… maybe he doesn’t deserve to die.

  33. Anjou

    Ashley 2.0,

    Honestly, I do not have conclusive evidence showing N + L = J

I merely came up with that theory to show that R + L = J is just as unplausible. Evidence? What evidence? If you believe all those guys then what about Ned referring to Jon and Rob in his first POV as “my sons”, interesting choice of words.

Secondly, Ned thinks of no woman more than Lyanna. It actually reminded me a lot of Jaime’s obsession with Cersei, albeit in a less sexual way (since Lyanna is dead, not much to yearn for). I mean, go back to that Crypt scene between Robert and Ned, there was more than sibling love between them to me.

Another thing that irks me is there is basically no witnesses to Lyanna’s pregnancy. nine months and not one person was around to notice she was pregnant? C’mon, his lineage would have been revealed by any of the Houses by now if Rhaegar had been the child. Besides, Rhaegar was a bit fruity. Ser Loras-like flower-giving fruity (not that there is anything wrong with that!) πŸ˜‰

  34. Kiss me I'm Myrish

You’ll all understand Cat once you become mothers…

  35. Kiss me I'm Myrish

You’ll all understand Cat once you become mothers…

  36. Anjou

    i agree

  37. Jovi

I actually have a question for all of you. Forgive me if it makes me look ignorant. ON page 598 of a clash of kings, Catelyn is questioning Jaime Lannister, I never understood what Jaime meant by …”I will say, I think it passing odd that I am loved by one for a kindness I never did, and reviled by so many for my finest act.” What did he mean by “a kindess I never did”? What was he talking about?

  38. mimi

jovi- he is talking about the tysha debacle. tyrion believed that jaime had arranged the encounter to initiate him into manhood, therefore looking out for him as an older brother. tyrion’s always had a lot of affection for jaime, but i think that’s one instance in particular where he loved jaime for a sentiment that was actually contrived.

  39. Mo

so that’s the key to get ladies I need to not bathe! Its so simple!

  40. Jovi

I’ve read A Clash of Kings a thousand times, since it was first published when I was in eighth grade, and I NEVER could figure that out. Thanks for ending the mystery Mimi.

    *grovels at Mimi’s feet*

  41. Anjou

so…how do we sign up for this… contest?

  42. Mo

So I’m still confused. Did Margaery actually do the nasty with all those people? Or is it up in the air?

  43. SoS_AP_5

^ No, she didn’t. Cersei was trying to incriminate Margaery in every way that she could, so she fabricated evidence by getting false confessions from that minstrel she tortured.

Yet again I encounter deep hatred towards Catelyn. Damn, I was sympathetic to her character, mostly because she is so different from the stereotypical female in fantasy works.

Best sex scene? Gotta be Jaime + Cersei, duh. It was just so well written. Even though it was short, it had all these great elements that made it stand out.

  44. Jovi

Yah, that scene was pretty hot…except that Cersei was on her rag..Who am I kidding, we’ve all done it. =P

  45. Mo

then what was the moon tea for?

  46. Chris

    About the contest,
Its on, but we are still working out some the details. More to come later after the holiday (USA Memorial Day.)
    Please be patient!
Trust us, it will be worth the wait.

  47. Mimi

anjou – we’re trying to gauge the interest level of the listeners first to see if we have enough willing participants. if there’s not a lot of interest, we’ll probably push back the contest idea. but if there is, we’ll get to formulating. don’t expect it to go down for a while, but we will definitely keep everyone updated on how to apply/submit questions/etc.

mo – i was also curious about the moon tea. was that just contrived as well? i knew that everyone else was. i just wasn’t sure about pycelle’s confession to cersei.

  48. Mo

See that’s what I can’t figure out. It makes no sense that Pycelle would lie to her at that point because he is being threatened with his life. Unless he catches on real fast, which he obviously doesn’t, there has to be some other explanation. But to be fair a lot of that story doesn’t make sense. I mean even about her being a maiden. Why wouldn’t Renly just fuck her and get it over with, even if he was a big homo?

Maybe she is actually a man!!!!

  49. Jakob Lightbringer

mo said: “then what was the moon tea for?”
Because Cersei interrupts Maester Pycelle, we might never know (aFfC US Bantam Hardcover p576):
    β€œShe desires . . . she . . . she . . .”
    “Say it!”
He cringed. “Moon tea,” he wispered. “Moon tea for . . .”
“I know what moon tea is for.”

  50. Mo

oh! Never read it like that till now. THNX

  51. Jovi

Okay, I’m a lil tipsy, but what freakin contest? I listened to the podcast and heard of no contest.

  52. Anjou

    Chris and Mimi-

Okay, thanks for the info! It sounds like a capital idea!

  53. Mimi

i think my first attempt at commenting failed.

jovi – consult the sidebar. poll, speciically.

jakob – this is why i love the podcast. brilliant listeners. i had never noticed the conversation in that light before.

  54. Jovi

I am so in that contest. Mimi filled the only void in my ASOIAF information.

  55. wormlips

Commenting on Mimi’s hopes for a crannogman fight: The idea of Howland Reed going up against knights on horseback seems to be almost doubtful. However, the crannogmen do use a unique fighting style which snares an opponent and prepares them for killing strike. I think that in the right terrain a squad of knights could easily be ambushed and slaughtered. But what interest me the most is Ned’s flashback of the tower fight with the targaryen kings guard. Ned claims he would have been killed had it not been for his buddy. This type of small group battle is very much alike to a typical roman gladiatorial battle. To further cement this notion, a type of gladiator was the net and trident fighter. So on the idea of Howland Reed being a badass? DEFINITELY! (just not so effective in a traditional field battle)

  56. Matt

Well, at least the Cat hatred was over at the beginning, and I could move on to the rest of the podcast. I’m still only halfway finished, but I’ll get there.

Anjou, do you really think that theory about Ned and Lyanna is true, or do you just throw it out there to show how you think people doctor the evidence of R+L=J?

  57. Slurpee_E

Catelyn hatred is fine by me, although I always liked reading her chapters. Not because of her, but because she was around for some cool events like the fight at the Whispering Wood, the meeting between Renly and Stannis, and especially, Bronn’s duel in the Vale.

  58. Anjou

    Matt-

Its a little more of the former than the latter. While it may not have the textbook references like that other crackpot theory has, I find it just as plausible. I was rereading GOT when it hit me, to be honest.

  59. Enderlost

The whole Bran/Meera thing will never happen for reasons other than you think, Mimi…. Well, at least in my epileptic tree idea.

  60. Enderlost

I really like that theory about Gendry/Arya as the match that should have been

  61. Avernaith

Fantastic podcast ladies, the finest yet in a series of excellent episodes. I’m a recent subscriber and your witty banter was enough to draw my wife into listening as well. Very fair since she got me started reading A Game of Thrones. Merry Meet!

  62. Michael

You should make a podcast about Jon’s parentage. Read this http://towerofthehand.com/essays/chrisholden/jon_snows_parents.html
    first though.

  63. anon

I just want to say that this podcast was weak. The guys night was more interesting, more well done, and less annoying. Chris is much less obnoxious than Mimi who is clearly obsessed with being the center of attention. This podcast is great, but sometimes Mimi is a real dealbreaker.
