I think you may have misunderstood that part of the aftershow - probably because I edited together the episode rather quickly, particularly the aftershow: that comment about House Manwoody was not from him and just wishful thinking.

Did Kyle's phone call him an idolater? Don't let Melisandre hear that.

I'm pretty certain the Manwoody mention is a shout out to the podcast. There's the better part of a dozen Dornish houses/banners that get called in the books, they stopped on the third, feels too pointed to be a coincidence. They also don't recite the Manwoody banner, just say "Manwoodys of Kingsgrave"

Surprised you guys didn't pick up on the fact that Cersei successfully managed to send away from the wedding feast the one guy who might of been able to save Joffery, namely Grand Maester Pycelle.

Only Pycelle is there during the dwarf joust. He's sitting next to Varys after dwarf Robb's "beheading" clapping like the kiss-ass he is.

The Axel/Aleister discussion made me imagine the dad from Walk Hard:The Dewey Cox story yelling "Wrong Florent Died! Wrong Florent Died!" (instead of "Wrong Kid Died!") Love that movie, thanks for inadvertently making me think of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdtfcOlr0tk

Probably a continuity error given they filmed the entire thing over 4 days. Cersei banishes him from the feast. In the process of rechecking that scene for Pycelle's whereabouts, what really cracks me up is the Kingsguard standing in the background while Tyrion is picking up the cup during Joff's death throes. That has got to be the most relaxed bodyguard in the world, charged with protecting the life of his monarch, and he's just standing there like nothing is happening. Is that standard Kingsguard operating procedure? King is experiencing the last few seconds of his life, and they're just standing around, not rushing to him, not looking for threats to Tommen or other members of the royal family, not leaping into any kind of action. No, it's only Jaime, who has to come running from waaaaaaaaaaaaaay in the back, who reaches Joff first, who is already on the ground by this point. It kind of gives you the feeling that none of them wanted to help. "Oh good, the little shit is dying." Hilarious.

Just listened to this episode. I expected more Stannis rage! But appreciate that Kyle quoted me for my "Why Axell" comment. I had looked at the comments for this episode before listening to it and the whole time I'm expecting Christian Nairn to join the podcast. I kept checking the time. half hour left, 15 minutes left, aftershow....then it was just a comment! Oh well, I'm glad he knows about APOIAF even if he wasn't on it.

Usually I would think something like linking the Manwoody reference to the podcast was a stretch, but I don't know... I actually feel like it kind of WAS a reference.
Remember, George wrote this episode, and he knows about the podcast, has promoted it with links and blog posts, and knows that you guys love House Manwoody.

I think I found a strike against it being a reference to the podcast. Pod names the houses in the book in the following order: Martell, Dalt, Blackmont, Manwoody, Qorgyle, Uller, Allyrion, Gargalens, and Jordayne. In the show we get only (with the exception of Martell, because duh) the first three on that list. IMO, that's a pretty easy edit to make for TV purposes rather than randomly picking out 3 houses at random from that list or attaching any kind of other meaning to their inclusion. Just take what is written and cut it off after the first three.

fortytwo wrote: loved it. inkasrain is the best "unofficially official permanently non-permanent APOIAF host" I would think that whenever Brynden does his updated stats of the podcast, she'ld probably be up there on total number of guest appearances The fact that Michal (and Katie) are often on skype and around does make it easier to pull them in for episodes. In general, I always wanted to develop a group of recurring guest hosts we could turn to on short notice for episodes. Some other podcasts I listen to have the same thing going and I like that.

I just have to say that I think it's pretty awesome that Kyle keeps calling Tycho Nestoris, Tycho Brahe, who's a relatively obscure historical figure.

Mordion wrote: Haha, yeah. I think he just did it again in the recording for 143. Yeah, it was the one name that stuck in his name from astronomy class. Interesting: Quote: Tycho's nose[edit]
An artificial nose of the kind Tycho wore. This particular specimen did not belong to Tycho. While studying at the University of Rostock[13] in Germany, on 29 December 1566 Tycho lost part of his nose in a sword duel against fellow Danish nobleman (and his third cousin), Manderup Parsberg.[14][15] Tycho had earlier quarrelled with Parsbjerg over the legitimacy of a mathematical formula, at a wedding dance at professor Lucas Bachmeister's house on the 10th, and again on the 27th. Since neither had the resources to prove the other wrong, they ended up resolving the issue with a duel.[16] Though the two later reconciled, the duel two days later (in the dark) resulted in Tycho losing the bridge of his nose.[15] From this event Tycho became interested in medicine and alchemy.[14] For the rest of his life, he was said to have worn a replacement made of silver and gold,[14] using a paste or glue to keep it attached.[15] Some people, such as Fredric Ihren and Cecil Adams, have suggested that the false nose also had copper. Ihren wrote that when Tycho's tomb was opened on June 24, 1901, green marks were found on his skull, suggesting copper.[15] Cecil Adams also mentions a green coloring and that medical experts examined the remains.[17] Some historians have speculated that he wore different prosthetics for different occasions, noting that a copper nose would have been more comfortable and less heavy than a precious metal one.[2] Nonetheless, in November 2012, Danish and Czech researchers, after chemically analyzing "a small bone sample from the nose" from the body exhumed in 2010, reported the prosthetic was "made out of brass".[18]
