Episode 144: Oathkeeper
Episode 144 for the week of April 27th, in which we review the fourth episode in the fourth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. We are joined by the Chucker of Axes, Fire and Blood from Winter is Coming. We discuss, yet again, the impending question every book reader watching the HBO series must ask themselves.
Notes: Like almost all episodes of APOIAF, this episode has spoilers for all published books in George RR Martin’s ASOIAF series. Some of the twitter hashtags coined this episode include Get Fabio on Game of Thrones, Save Hodor, and Get Dr. Bashir on Game of Thrones.

Ok, I just had to comment to thank you for getting me inordinately excited while sitting at work with the Stormwind intro music. WoW music + ASOIAF podcast…just wow! LOL.
Great work on this podcast.

Coldhands didn’t just “deal” with the deserters, he fed them to Bran & Co.

But but… he said the Ranger found a pig…. long pig.

Man where would the deserters have gotten a pig? Craster told them he didn’t have any extra food, and he would never ever lie.

so one of them was riding a pig in the middle of snow so deep a moose was having trouble? A pig Summer ever saw or smelled? What’s more likely a Direwolf failed to notice a pig or that there was no pig?

Hi guys, this podcast is great. I just wanted to point out that HBO has already told us the story of the Night´s King: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2TQHjo3xzQ
So i think they actually setting up this whitewalker-character to pay off in the end game. I dont think this was an accident.
I mean, as the tv show was going they dindt really needed to tell that story in the Histories & Lore section. But now its kind of making sense (for the tv show).

Hey love the podcast! I’ve been listening for forever! But honestly I don’t see how they can do 7 seasons, unless they really cut down on the story. There are 4 books left and 3 seasons…. I just really hope 8 happens. 8 would be great!

George’s take on TV spoiling the books in the last episode; as expressed in a comment on his blog:

no spoilers book readers?!
Speaking of TV show and book readers, you got any comments on The Night’s King incident or THAT scene in last episode. I don’t know if you have any power over producers but please, do not let THEM spoil the books, while everyone is so focused on us readers spoiling TV viewers.

Re: no spoilers book readers?!
How do you define “spoiler?”
If something happens on the show before it happens in the book, I suppose one could call that a spoiler.
If something happens on the show, but happens very differently in the books, is that still a spoiler?
If something happens on the show, but never happens in books, what precisely was spoiled?
And how many children did Scarlett O’Hara have, anyway?
***************************************************************************
What does that mean ?

I’m pretty sure he’s trolling the users who won’t stay on topic while hinting that it doesn’t really matter. Either because we would never have seen it in the books or because it is just a little different but not in any significant way (like the different number of children Scarlett had in the book vs adaptation).

Better than last week, but I’m not entirely sure if the guest was letting his imagination run away with him with respect to what the actual show runners may or may not have said regarding events in oathkeeper at one point.
