While a very good action episode, but it lacked character development and it’s missing the third act of the Wall situation, IMHO. The price of the poor choices for the last 2 and half seasons.
Anyway, after this display, Thorne and Hobb? are very good candidates for Lord Commander.
Didn’t Pyp went to Craster’s Keep? Why were they surprised by Tormund’s attack? Grenn defends a portcullis without spears and crossbows?! Why wasn’t Mole’s town evacuated? What fighting did Sam actually do?

I agree. And the Blackwater comparisons don’t help. There is such a big difference with the quality of the writing frankly.

Is anyone really surprised by Larry’s flounce? His immature diaper-baby tendencies were clear from the start.

Yeah he was somewhat interesting to listen to in the beginning, in a ‘let’s what this opinionated dimwit has missed and misunderstood this week’ sort of way, but that got old pretty fast.

Not a big fan of the episode, but I can understand why others liked it. I mean technically it was fine, but I just think the placing of the episode was wrong. After the ending of episode 8, it was frustrating to have nothing from King’s Landing.

By the way, Ghost comes back when the Night’s Watch is voting for the next Lord Commander, and he helps Jon make the decision to reject Stannis’ Winterfell offer.

Someone reddit worked out the kill count – it’s less than you think, we’ve got around 50 of ’em left.

Agreed, Amin. To me it was a great episode because of how immersive it was. Ser Alliser’s speech really drew me in.

    I counted 42 Night’s watch deaths.

So how many casualties can we assume are out of frame or occur when we are at the top of the Wall?

Fair to say they lost at least 60 men?

Amin, “It’s not a perfect episode, but I’m giving it 5 lemon cakes.”
    Come on now….
    ;P

  10. I really enjoyed this episode but would rate it 4.5 lemoncakes since the ending of the episode felt a little anti climactic (no cherry on top like kyle said). Still, this has been my favorite episode since Blackwater and I really enjoyed every minute of the fight. I felt they did justice to the giants and Grenn’s speech gave me goosebumps!

  11. About the Brienne/Hound fight. Come on guys, Brienne could take the hound. She’s one of the best fighters in the kingdom. She took Loras Tyrell in a huge melee to become one of the rainbow guard, and she stands toe-to-toe with Jame Lannister. You aren’t giving her the credit she’s due. I think it would be a fair fight if the hound wasn’t injured, but given his state I think it’s obvious she won.
