Episode 19: Everyone Likes Bunnies
Episode 19 for the week of December 21th, in which we released unedited yet again in order to bring the content to you faster. This month, we cover chapters 31-35 of A Game of Thrones, read the review of the leaked pilot script provided by Winter is Coming (interjecting opinions where we see fit), and hang up on Chris for being a douchebag.

hey guys this just him me. Dany and Jon are about 9 months apart in the book they are two years apart in the show what does this mean for the time tine of R + L=J?
Dec 21st, 2008
Johan
I was wondering that too. If it does matter I’m sure Martin will tell the scrip writers though. Or it just means L+R=J is not true (one can always hope)

I’d be heartbroken. I don’t hear from you much.

Personally I like to think Lyanna is living in Grey Waters married
to Howland and is the mother of the Reeds.
I know, it’s a shame. I’ve been listening to you and Brandon
though. (FYI the first part of Bran episode isn’t working)
Hope you had a marry Christmas.

Dude that is going to be the next crazy theory. I’ll fix Bran part 1 and I hope you had a merry christmas too

I think the ages listed are the ages they need the actors to be, or look. Dany is older because she is going to have a sex scene right from the start. Jon is older because he’s such a main character it will be easier to find an actor to fit the role, plus he’ll have some sex scenes too. I just hope the actors look young enough to fit the part.

Nice to see you guys back. Here are a couple of thoughts on the podcast topics discussed basically the pilot.
Brianna you are right Jon and Dany basically have to be the same age if L + R = Jon. Did anyone notice the credit description with the flying crow showing the important locations is a complete rip off of the intro of the Sopranos. The Sopranos credits always rolled with Tony driving from New York to his home in Jersey driving by all significant locations in the series like the pork store and the strip club etc. When I imagine the crow flying by the different castles I can almost hear the theme of the Sopranos playing in the background.
If the show ever does get picked up and becomes a real TV series I do think you are going to find lots of instances of hundreds of pages of the book be crammed into a single episode. You have to keep in mind that HBO shows are all a legitimate hour. Not like a show on FX or CBS which only have about 40 minutes of actual air time due to commercials. And every hour long series on HBO from Rome to The Sopranos usually only have about 13 or 14 episodes in a season. Where as hour long shows on regular cable channels usually have about 20-22 episodes in a season. Just some things to keep in mind.

Chiggen answered Catelyn’s call for volunteers to help her escort Tyrion to the Vale. (AGOT 32)He was killed en route in a clansmen attack.

Nobody mentioned the Blackfish. How can you not mention the first time we meet Ser Brynden? Am I drunk? This is the first time we meet him correct?

Chris I’m not exactly sure what 5 smiley face 5 means, but tower of the hand says we meet Lysa and Brynden in the same chapter.
Anywho. Merry Christmas to all….errr Happy Holidays rather.
Dec 25th, 2008
mimi
i think he means it’s a catelyn chapter, which is why we glossed over it. ultimate catelyn hatred.
but you’re right! and i’m totally beating myself up over the fact that we didn’t mention the blackfish.
Dec 25th, 2008
Canard
Ahhh yes. I also hate me some Catelyn, but I f*&^%#$ love the Blackfish. Everybody says Patrick Stewart should be Barristan the bold, but I always pictured him as the Blackfish….minus hair.

Wormlips
I recall the first Bran chapter and how Jon mentions with a wisdom beyond his years that the direwolves were meant for the Starks. So far, the girls are the only ones who have lost their wolves. Arya’s Nymeria has gone awol, reflecting the situation of her owner. That said, what is Sansa’s situation? Given the significant premature loss of Lady, is George really creating a shipping plot with the Hound? It wouldn’t be the first time. We need only observe the dependence of Jaime on Brianne. What I am trying to touch on is the quasi mystical nature of these bonds, rather than romantic escapades.
Dec 27th, 2008
Chase
I don’t quite understand what you’re getting at here. What does the Sansa and Sandor relationship have to do with the dire wolves? And for that matter, Jaime and Brienne? How are the spiritual bonds of the wolves and the personal relationships between these characters in any way related?
Dec 27th, 2008
Wormlips
Do you remember Robert saying to Ned that it would be better to get her (Sansa) a dog? Sansa has lost her wolf and it ain’t coming back. So maybe Sandor is being set up to be an alternative guardian.
When Jaime was leaving with a personal escort from Harrenhal, he had that nightmarish dream of being all alone and surrounded. Then Brienne came to his rescue. Unlike the direwolves, it could be nothing more than a personal subconcious reflection.
To clarify, I am not focusing on the personal relationships of these characters. Rather, given that it is a fantasy series that has already revealed the power of prophecy and literary symbolism, are the afore mentioned characters destined to be bonded to each other?
Dec 27th, 2008
Chase
Well, that makes a lot more sense. It’s not unreasonable at all to think that the grrm is headed in that direction. The way he does it, however, is up in the air. Sandor’s on the Quiet Isle, Sansa’s in the Eyrie, Brienne has no face and may or may not be on a new mission to kill Jaime..

oxmix
That’s a nice catch on “get her a dog.”
There are a few “Beuaty and the Beast” stories in SOIAF. The most obvious is Sansa and Tyrion, but there is also Sansa and Sandor. And there is actually a character called Beauty, who has a beastly boyfriend.
Still, my guess is that Sansa stays a Maiden, even without her wolf.
Dec 29th, 2008
DocBean
A character called Beauty? What book was that in??? I completely missed that one.
Jan 6th, 2009
oxmix
Brienne of Tarth is called Beauty.
Jan 6th, 2009
DocBean
you said a character called Beauty, who has a beastly boyfriend. Are you saying you meant Brienne and… Jaime? I never really connected that one to Beauty and the Beast. Although if they did hook up people would say Jaime was the Beauty and Brienne was the Beast. Remember the Beast was the one with the kind heart, so that would fit.

Yes, I meant Brienne and Jaime. Seeing as “Beauty and the
Beast” put Mr. Martin on Easy Street, I don’t think he uses the
name “Beauty” without meaning it. So Brienne is called
“Beauty” to insult her, even though she is a beautiful person
who looks like a beast. And Jaime, who is beautiful, looks like
a lion and identifies with lions, i.e, the King of Beasts. And
there is obviously something loving and sexual developing
between those two. It’s the old Boy Meets Girl / Beauty meets
Beast story. A tale as old as time.
