Episode 40: Forever Bitter

Episode 40 for the week of February 27th, in which we discuss (and imagine) The Maester’s Path with absolutely no envy or bitterness whatsoever. We discuss chapter 68 of A Game of Thrones, and derail incessantly. We are joined by guest host FaBio, from Winter is Coming, who educates us about merkins and various other important things.

Episode 39: Intermingling

Episode 39 for the week of February 20th, in which we discuss intermingling, neckbeards, Maester Luwin’s libido and everything in between, with a lengthy after show. We review chapters 66 and 67 of A Game of Thrones and try to finish off the Heir to the North theory. We are joined by two guest hosts from beyond the Wall: Apocalypse Dan and Miss Molly Grue (Sarah).

Episode 38: Jelly Belly

Episode 38 for the week of February 13th, in which we bring you a belated Valentine’s Day present in the form of our dulcet tones.  We review chapters 64 and 65 of A Game of Thrones, open the Heir to the North theory to listener comments, and discuss fermented mare’s milk.  Matt was our guest host for this week.

If the intro baffles you, that’s just Mimi counting to ten in Mongolian, in contrast to the numbers given in the Dothraki vocabulary guide.  It made sense at the time.  Sort of.

Episode 37: Interviewing Westeros

Episode 37 for the week of January 30th, in which we seem like almost respectable podcasters in our interview with Elio M. García (aka Ran) and Linda Antonsson, otherwise known as the force behind Westeros. Elio and Linda discuss working with GRRM, running the ASOIAF forums, and how the series has brought them together. With their expertise, we also review chapters 62 and 63 of A Game of Thrones. And Kyle showcases his awesome battle cry.

Episode 36: Feathered Hat

Episode 36 for the week of January 23rd, in which we sort of review chapters 60 and 61 of A Game of Thrones (but not really), realize how awesome Walder Frey is, and generally do such a poor job that Mimi quits the podcast (but not really). Our sexy lady guest host this week was Jane. Please don’t hate us.

Episode 35: Blackwoody Returns

Episode 35 for the week of January 17th, in which we review chapters 58 and 59 of A Game of Thrones, consider the new HBO tie-in cover art, and showcase Chase and Kyle’s epic voice acting talent (watch out, Roy Dotrice). Christina is our guest host for this episode, raising our sexy lady quota to new heights. And as the title suggests, there is so much more Blackwoody this time.

Episode 34: The Blackwoody

Episode 34 for the week of January 10th, in which we lament our status as the outcast of the ASOIAF fandom, find out more about George’s recent book signing, and return to our long overdue reread of A Game of Thrones.  We discuss chapters 56 and 57, with guest hosts Kyle and Sebastian being significantly more handsome and generally better than the rest of us.

APOIAF Guest Hosts Meet GRRM

Check out these handsome gentlemen chilling with George R.R. Martin at today’s book signing in Pasadena, CA.  The top photo belongs to Kyle (who you might remember from the previous episode), and the second photo is Sebastian (our new guest host for the just-recorded episode 34).  You’ll get to hear both of them discuss their experience on this next episode.  Excitement!

Merry Christmas from APOIAF!

Thanks to your feedback and requests, the Podcast of Ice and Fire now has its own message board!  Check the forums link at the top of the site, or else click here to begin your magical adventure.  We know that Westeros is the go-to community for ASOIAF discussion, but if you ever need a place to let loose and debate midget sex, we are here for you.  Forever and always.

Episode 33: The Crooked Wang Theory

Episode 33 for the week of December 20th, in which we end the podcasting hiatus with a triumphant return to verbally abusing Chase! In this episode, we discuss the casting and developments of the HBO series, dissect the behind-the-scenes trailer, and laugh at this picture of Hot Pie for a while. Kyle guest hosts this week. Stay tuned at the end for some after show discussions behind the creaking door.

Shout out to the following listeners: Raymond, Brian + Jared, Sarah, Apocalypse Dan, Christina, Jane, Matthew, Sebastian, Tim, Travis, and Dr. Perlmutter. Thanks for the fantastic audio introductions, we’d be thrilled to have each and every one of you on the show as a guest host, or possibly permanent recurring member (depending on your schedule). We’ll be getting in touch with you soon to collect your Skype username and availability (or if you want, leave a comment on this post).

Upcoming Holiday Episode

Believe it or not, we are planning to break our hiatus, and record an episode in mid December. We need your ideas for discussion topics, as well as comments and questions that we will respond to during the episode. Email them in to us: audio comments are best and will be played during the show, but we’ll take the usual text comments as well. Let us know how we’ve touched your lives and/or offended your ears.

We will be back to our regular podcasting schedule with a vengeance once the HBO series comes out in spring, but if you want us to start podcasting regularly before then we need your feedback.

Dying Is Not Dead

You knew it was coming.

Official hiatus.

See you in the fall, revamped for the better.

Episode 32: Winter Has Come!

We manage to pull it all together and record a pretty darn solid episode! Almost no editing required (I added some break music, bonus points for naming it) because we’re just that good.  It also helped that we had a terrific guest who kept us on track.

Our guest for this episode was Phil from www.Winter-Is-Coming.net in case you missed the Twitter posts. You are following us on Twitter, aren’t you? We talk about everything from how his site began, his sources, thoughts about the actors and their wild hair, everything we could think of!  And probably lots more that I just can’t remember because my brain is currently filled with Star Trek. Listen in to find out what I forgot!

Thanks again for coming to chat with us, Phil!

Needs More Hosts

As you can tell, The Podcast of Ice and Fire has been through its fair share of hosts over the past two years. There was the brief but illustrious reign of King Tommen, the unforgettable creepiness of Chris, Aaron’s party on the Quiet Isle, and the general fabulousness that was Ashley 2. Also not quite sure where Ashley 1 is, either.

This year has been a leap forward for A Song of Ice and Fire, with the greenlight on the HBO series and the pending publication of the third Dunk & Egg novella. The Podcast is ready to be more active, but we need your help. We want more hosts.

If you:

1. Have Skype and a mic,
2. Can reasonably free up a few hours once a week or every other week,
3. And mostly importantly, have a good sense of humor,

Send us an email and attach an audio clip. Tell us about yourself, about your ASOIAF fanaticism, and why you want to be a part of the crew. We would love to hear from you and have you on board (unless you are terrible).

Episode 31: Better Than Farmville

Episode 31 for the week of March 7th (try not to laugh when you hear which week it was actually intended for), in which we round out our Dunk & Egg extravaganza with a recap of The Sworn Sword.  Get your graphic novel version out so you can take maximum advantage of Chase’ incessant raving about Dunk’s package.  The Podcast of Ice and Fire is back in action and ready to offend the ear some more.

Spoiler warning: Much like the previous episode, this is intended for listeners who have read the novella.  Futhermore, there are a couple of vague references to the preview chapter of the unreleased follow-up, The Mystery Knight.  You’ve been warned!
