Episode 29: What If? Call In Show – Part 2
Episode 29 for the week of August 16th, in which (as a continuation of a previous episode) we discuss a variety of what if? scenarios, the casting of Sean Bean and Jennifer Ehle, and explain the reason, details and continuing status of our hiatus. Just our luck though, a couple days after recording, the rest of the casting choices were announced and we have no coverage of that.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find the audio clip of Irish listener Rick asking his question, but it’s included at the end of episode 10, the first What If? episode: http://podcastoficeandfire.com/?p=18
Listeners Sam, Brianna and Julani join us for this episode. Thanks for coming, folks, we enjoyed having you!

Not Sam
Wow, that new guest host Sam was so super awesome.
Aug 24th, 2009
Not the call in show Sam but the one who got his question answered at the end of the last show
Just listened to the new show and once again you delivered. Really helped a slow night at work easier to deal with. I was also happy that my question made the show even though Amin basically asked something close to the same question at the start and stole my thunder, but that’s ok because Amin is cool. As I’ve said before love the show keep up the good work, and ignore the asshole apoaif haters out there. Plenty of us appreciate the show, and hell if they don’t like the show they can go to their room shut the door and fuck themselves. Thanks again!!

I was listening to some of the old episodes last night at work and laughing my ass off, and got to thinking what are listeners and the hosts favorite moments from the pod cast. Since I brought it up thought I would let you in on my top five.
5. Episode 6 Cover Art Critique. Mimi sees a cover with Melisandre looking at her boob, and says “that face is a mans face” cant explain why but couldn’t stop laughing at that.
4. Episode 7 Guys Night Out. Aaron chooses to rule the Quiet Isle for the orgies.
3. Episode 8 Girls Night Out. Mimi list the six reasons to hate Chris
2. Episode 18 Lesbians and Dongs. Chase does his Littlefinger impression, “Your mother was my queen of beauty” followed by the creepy moan.
1. Episode 20 Shocking Lack of Knowledge. Mimi while explaining why she understands Jamie pitching Bran’s ass off the ledge decides to compare incest with rimming a cat. Best line ever!!
Those are five that I cant forget I know there are others but they are my favorite. So let me know what you think.

Aaron and his Quiet Isle fantasy is one of the best moments.

my favorite is one of yours- your “renly has lots of aides” comment.

I’d actually pit the quiet isle orgies in #1.
I also loved the “incest baby, incest baby” thing on… whatever episode.

Ditto on your #2, Sam
My favorite moments:
-episode 23 – Chris talks about his fantasy of seeing Vin Diesel and the Rock as Renly and Loras
-episode 22 – Chase having a hard-on for Eddie Vedder while Mimi has one over China Mieville
-episode 20 – Ashley 1 bitching about her calendar. Also, this didn’t happen in the episode but this is where i learned about the famous Jaime Lannister youtube video, which still makes me laugh to this day.
-episode 3 part 1
-whichever episode featured Mimi spending half and hour ranting about some guy on Degrassi who got shanked in the back.
ok, haven’t even listened to the podcast yet, lol. I’ll be back

Do Eunuchs keep their balls or is everything gone on Vayrs?
Aug 27th, 2009
Sebastian
Eunuch = no balls, generally castration only includes the nads. I know Varys speaks on watching his ‘manhood’ burn in the flames, but I don’t recall (or have the book in front of me) whether he says he was cut root and stem or just the ballz. Normally though, it’s just the balls.
Unsullied get the entire package chopped! Maybe they feed it to the puppies before they kill them

This is probably irrelevant to everyone, but the actor from Blackadder that Chase was talking about is Brian Blessed.
Aug 28th, 2009
Chase
Yes, Brian Blessed! He’s the perfect Robert Baratheon… 30 years ago 🙁
Aug 28th, 2009
CJB
Agreed. Rowan Atkinson would have been a great Littlefinger as well.

Surya
YES! I Brian Blessed would be perfect for the role… 30 years ago as mentioned. I feel that Robert always wanted to be like Brian Blessed’s character (going off on Crusades and fighting etc.) but the existence of Cersei prevented it.

Great podcast… if paced a bit slowly.
🙂
First off… let me say Amin and Mimi are like the Sam and Diane of the podcast… (except Diane left and Rebecca came in so maybe that’s not really a good example)… anywho… sadly, Chase, your more like the Frasier of the podcast.
😀
As for the future of the podcast… you know, while I began to listen to it because of Martin’s work, I stuck around because of you all…. Don’t feel pressured to talk about Martin all the time. It’s not GRRM radio. Maybe you guys could write some shipping for the series and read it out load? Complete with saucy dialog?
I feel your angst as far as nothing happening with the series. So you guys have two choices I think… You can evolve into crazy theorists taking every sixth letter in the works and claiming they can be compiled into a hidden text that coincides with Dark Side of the Moon… or your gonna have to open up with some of your side interests…. Video games, other books, crafts, tv shows, etc… It’s either that or shutter up till the next book releases… and to be honest, your podcast is like audio lithium for my bipolar soul, so you can’t shutter up just yet.

Well, they got the whole thing with pokemon going on, right? There’s that to fall back on if they are running out of things to say about Ice and Fire. I’m sure that all AOIAF fans are also Pokemon fans (and vice versa), as the two works are so closely related.
And I don’t think the whole them writing shipping would work out to well…we would get a lot of Sansa and the Hound action, maybe some perverted Littlefinger rape, they could do something about the Quiet Isle Orgy but there’s also the possiblity that such a thing could ruin the joke.
And maybe a nice short story telling the tale of the creaking door. That’s still one of my favorite running jokes of the podcast, definitely better than the Quiet Isle.
So…I guess I do agree with you that there could be different topics they talk about besides the books and Martin. The great thing about the podcasters is that they are just funny people and entertaining to listen to. I love the books, but the books aren’t the reason I keep listening.

Sam the Buttman
I agree with you about the hosts being funny and listening to them talk about random stuff being the reason that I keep coming back. Sure when I first found the pod cast I was looking for some way to get info about the books and to hear what others thought about the series. What I found with this pod cast is something even better. I never expected them to be so funny and so enjoyable, I never thought I could listen to the same thing over and over but when I am at work that’s what I do. I think they should release some of their “failed” episodes they could be completely off topic, and it wouldn’t really matter to me because at this point I just enjoy hearing what they have to say. Hell I live in nowhere Wyoming, work for the railroad, and I work midnights trust me I need this pod cast to keep me from driving out in front of a train.

Guys, you can’t quit the podcast! What’s with all of this “we won’t be recording on a regular basis” business? I know a lot of the topics have exhausted themselves, but you could still continue with the chapter re-reads, and then of course you’ll start ranting which is entertaining enough and a big reason we’re all still listening, lol. I’ve been travelling for the past few months and listening to old episodes while on 4 hour train rides has been great.
And, Chase is no longer tied with Mimi as my favorite podcaster because he said that Mad Men is boring. The respect is gone now.

I know this is way posted way late comparatively, but I agree with Jude, continue with chapter re-reads. When I found this podcast, the chapter re-reads were a main reason why I listened because you would find info & theories as to what’s going on that I hadn’t thought of. Then, like Jude, I would enjoy the rants.

That would definitely be ideal but I think they’ve still got a good thing going. Chris would be nice to bring back but he’s not necessary to the podcast, and from the sounds of things he won’t be coming back.

There’s lots of casting info on AGOT min-series. Enough to make an episode?
Oct 17th, 2009
Chase
The fact that most of them are mostly unknown makes it a little difficult. Sure, there’s the big names we’ve touched on before, but the rest are over the seas stage actors or even less that we just don’t have much information on. Hell, even trying to find a picture of most of them is a trying affair.
I’m not really sure what could be made of it.

You could do an episode where you read a countdown of the 50 most sycophantic comments from GRRM’s livejournal page. This would be good for at least a half hour of hilarity.

Just listening to the earliest episodes of the podcast and laughing my head off….Sure miss you guys
Nov 10th, 2009

Just listened to this episode, and had a couple thoughts on your what ifs.
1) As far as Jon getting Long Claw; Why didn’t Lord Mormont give it to Maege Mormont or whoever was ruling Bear Island?
2) You guys talked about Jon finding out about Bran; If Jon had found Bran at Queenscrown would he have gone with Bran to help him?
I think he’d want to, but no because he’d have to let Night’s Watch know of the wilding attack. But after he might’ve gone north again to find Bran and help. Interesting to ponder.
3) You all talked about Arya dying instead of Butcher’s boy and Jaime was the one who killed her, not the Hound; I think Robert would not have had Jaime killed, but for discussion’s sake, let’s say he did. I think the camp/caravan would’ve become a battefield of Lannisters vs Starks (& Baratheons? did Robert have any of his own men?). Or the other possibility, Cersei waits until night, kills Robert (or has him killed), then Lannister soldiers suprise the Starks.
I like your “What If” episodes. I hope the podcast keeps going

Sometimes when I am listening to these, even years later, I find myself shouting at the hosts as I listen. I figure this means you were (and are) doing a good job, since you’re evokng a reaction.
