Episode 35: Blackwoody Returns

Episode 35 for the week of January 17th, in which we review chapters 58 and 59 of A Game of Thrones, consider the new HBO tie-in cover art, and showcase Chase and Kyle’s epic voice acting talent (watch out, Roy Dotrice). Christina is our guest host for this episode, raising our sexy lady quota to new heights. And as the title suggests, there is so much more Blackwoody this time.

Episode 34: The Blackwoody

Episode 34 for the week of January 10th, in which we lament our status as the outcast of the ASOIAF fandom, find out more about George’s recent book signing, and return to our long overdue reread of A Game of Thrones.  We discuss chapters 56 and 57, with guest hosts Kyle and Sebastian being significantly more handsome and generally better than the rest of us.

Episode 33: The Crooked Wang Theory

Episode 33 for the week of December 20th, in which we end the podcasting hiatus with a triumphant return to verbally abusing Chase! In this episode, we discuss the casting and developments of the HBO series, dissect the behind-the-scenes trailer, and laugh at this picture of Hot Pie for a while. Kyle guest hosts this week. Stay tuned at the end for some after show discussions behind the creaking door.

Shout out to the following listeners: Raymond, Brian + Jared, Sarah, Apocalypse Dan, Christina, Jane, Matthew, Sebastian, Tim, Travis, and Dr. Perlmutter. Thanks for the fantastic audio introductions, we’d be thrilled to have each and every one of you on the show as a guest host, or possibly permanent recurring member (depending on your schedule). We’ll be getting in touch with you soon to collect your Skype username and availability (or if you want, leave a comment on this post).

Episode 32: Winter Has Come!

We manage to pull it all together and record a pretty darn solid episode! Almost no editing required (I added some break music, bonus points for naming it) because we’re just that good.  It also helped that we had a terrific guest who kept us on track.

Our guest for this episode was Phil from www.Winter-Is-Coming.net in case you missed the Twitter posts. You are following us on Twitter, aren’t you? We talk about everything from how his site began, his sources, thoughts about the actors and their wild hair, everything we could think of!  And probably lots more that I just can’t remember because my brain is currently filled with Star Trek. Listen in to find out what I forgot!

Thanks again for coming to chat with us, Phil!

Episode 31: Better Than Farmville

Episode 31 for the week of March 7th (try not to laugh when you hear which week it was actually intended for), in which we round out our Dunk & Egg extravaganza with a recap of The Sworn Sword.  Get your graphic novel version out so you can take maximum advantage of Chase’ incessant raving about Dunk’s package.  The Podcast of Ice and Fire is back in action and ready to offend the ear some more.

Spoiler warning: Much like the previous episode, this is intended for listeners who have read the novella.  Futhermore, there are a couple of vague references to the preview chapter of the unreleased follow-up, The Mystery Knight.  You’ve been warned!

Episode 30: Sweet Dornish Honey

Episode 30 for the week of October 5th (but released eight years later!), in which we embark on the first of our two-part Dunk & Egg special.  Here, we spend two hours poring over GRRM’s first Dunk & Egg novella, The Hedge Knight, discussing Chase’ resemblance to Daeron Targaryen, and various other things I forgot because this was recorded so long ago.

Spoiler warning: For those of you who have not read the Dunk & Egg stories, this episode (and the next) will obviously be full of spoilers and life-ruiners.

Episode 29: What If? Call In Show – Part 2

Episode 29 for the week of August 16th, in which (as a continuation of a previous episode) we discuss a variety of what if? scenarios, the casting of Sean Bean and Jennifer Ehle, and explain the reason, details and continuing status of our hiatus. Just our luck though, a couple days after recording, the rest of the casting choices were announced and we have no coverage of that.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find the audio clip of Irish listener Rick asking his question, but it’s included at the end of episode 10, the first What If? episode: http://podcastoficeandfire.com/?p=18

Listeners Sam, Brianna and Julani join us for this episode. Thanks for coming, folks, we enjoyed having you!

Episode 28: Win A Sexy Corset

Episode 28 for the week of June 28th, in which we discuss chapter 55 of A Game of Thrones, debate whether Jorah Mormont is a rad ass dude or a rat ass dude, and examine Chase’s personal ambition to grow a beard in his nether regions.  Also something about bloodriders. Our guest host this week was Lauren.

Keep an eye on the blog for more updates regarding future episode topics.  And in the meantime, leave those sexy voicemails for APOIAF on Skype!

Episode 27: The Lost Levels

Episode 27 for the week of June 7th: from the recesses of time and space, the lost Books mini-episode has resurfaced! In this we talk about other books in the fantasy and sci fi genres that we’ve been reading or have read in the past. Recommendations and condemnations come hand in hand to this swank party, so there’s a little something for everyone.

P.S. When we get to romance novels, this is what we were laughing about.

Episode 26: Don’t Tell Mimi The Babysitter’s Dead

Episode 26 for the week of June 10th, in which we talk about Chapter 54 of Game of Thrones (focusing far too little on Hodor’s nude scene), the bannermen under House Stark, who Robb might have sent to lead his troops south in the war and probably a lot of other things that might have been cut.

There’s a surprise return of one of our original hosts, but you’ll just have to listen to find out who that is!

Episode 25: Wight Fight

Episode 25 for the week of May 24th, in which we examine chapter 53 of A Game of Thrones (focusing far too much on Lord Mormont’s nude scene), do not know how to pronounce Neil Gaiman’s name, and finally have an appropriate outlet for our video game geekfest.

Note: Despite anything we said to the contrary in this episode, listening to A Podcast of Ice and Fire while making love is a terrible, terrible idea and will most likely result in infertility and sadness all around.

Episode 24: Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver Q4 2009

Episode 24 for the week of May 10th, in which we attack chapters 49-52 of
A Game of Thrones
, discuss Sansa’s merits (she has none), and compute the Syrio Forel = Jaqen H’Gar equation. Guest host Apocalypse Dan joins in to drop the knowledge on us.

Episode 23: Get Chilly

Episode 23 for the week of April 19th, in which Chris makes a triumphant return to the podcast to discuss Vin Diesel and forget more things about ASOIAF. This episode, we agonize over chapter 48 of A Game of Thrones, argue about Renly Baratheon, and find out how similar Chase is to Cersei.

Find out which ASOIAF character you are!
The long quiz and the short quiz.

Episode 22: Everyone’s A Targaryen

Episode 22 for the week of March 22nd, in which we embark on a new show structure, focusing on three main components: one chapter, one character, and one theory.  This week, we kick off with chapter 46 of A Game of Thrones, discuss Doran Martell’s gout, and conclude that the “Varys is a Faceless Man” theory is entirely inconclusive.

We hope you like our new format- we changed it in light of some very good feedback in our email and comments.  Let us know what you think, and drop us an email if you’d like to guest host for an episode.

Episode 21: The Lost Episode

Episode 21 (recorded ages ago) for the week of March 22nd, in which we visit the five-chapter-reread format for the last time for chapters 41-45 of A Game of Thrones.  Originally, roughly half this episode was dedicated to trying to force Chase to recite the Pokérap (he declined), but we’ve pared it down for your listening pleasure.  Our guest host this episode was Robb.

Note: On top of being lost and severely delayed, this episode also has some major technical issues after the hour mark.  Somehow in random patterns, everyone’s individual audio seems to overlap, lag, and speed up oddly which results in several bursts of chaotic talking.  We normally do interrupt each other a lot, but not to this extent.  Sorry for the confusion!
